I was wondering what are some ways to get your weight down on 96-98 gt's

Theres the obvious stuff you can take out at the track, i always take out the back seat, spare tire and jack. A lot of ppl also take the front sway bar off, thats like 30lbs. A lot of my friends who drive imports scrape out the material under the carpets that keeps out sound. A friend took out 60lb of the stuff off his corrado. Lighter cotrol arms and suspension will lighten up the car a lot. One thing that helps is taking out the front metal bumper support. that thing is huge!, but if you do, DONT HIT ANYTHING! without it there is nothing fro cracking your bumper and everything else behind it. I cant think of any other practical thing you can take out besides just gutting the thing.....anyone else got some?

I'd leave the front bumper support in on anything you'd ever drive on the street. Just not smart

Wheels are often overlooked, and unsprung weight is what you want to get down the most. Rear seats are good to take out, they're not much use anyway

Wheels! Also aluminum DS, aluminum flywheel...but this isn't really about reducing weight as much as it is about reducing the rotating mass.
For weight reduction, rear seat delete, spare tire and jack removal, passenger seat removal, front sway bar removal, A/C delete, remove the stereo, amps, speakers, etc. How about a fiberglass hood? It's all the little things that eventually add up.

I have a fiberglass hood I thought it was stock? Does the aluminum ds really free up hp? and how much weight is there?

Besides what others have mentioned, you might think about a DynaBatt or similar light weight battery. It will remove about 30 lb off the front (where you want it). If you have an automatic, a 9.5" PI torque converter will free up about 20 lb of rotating mass (even more significant since rotating mass must be given both linear and angular acceleration).

Pretty much everybody covered it. I am getting rid of my wheels because those d*** things are HEAVY. The best weight reduction thou is the rotating mass.

You can buy it direct from Precision Industries, but a lot of guys say to get it from Houston Performance, or Houston Mustang, or something like that.

Also get a transmission cooler. And you will probably need to improve traction after you install it.

The best weight to reduce is rotating mass. These are the things that your engine has to turn. Light weight wheels will reduce weight as well as rotating mass. Same with a lighter driveshaft or flywheel. Removing the front swaybar will increase weight transfer to the rear which will help with launching. For regular weight, its all been covered.. beack seats, spare, jack, floor mats, racing seats, light weight battery, relocate battery to trunk for better weight distribution(ie: better traction)

Anything you don't NEED in the car pitch it if you want to be light. A K member is another good one, don't think anyone said that. When you race take your spoiler off too. Its not to heavy but it can slow as much as 2 mph in the 1/4. Just seat removal, wheels, k-member, and control arms with some other little stuff got me down to 3170lbs.

the spoiler really slows you down that much???? how? the angle of attack on it is so small, how can it produce that much drag??
