Recently rebuilt my 302 which will be ready near the end of this week and have finished work on the engine bay/drivetrain. So I already have new carpet for the interior. I need to begin work on the dash. Im wondering whether or not I should buy this kit from mustangsplus that has all new chrome besels etc http://www.mustangsplus.com/Merchan...&Store_Code=MPFMP&Category_Code=dash_rest_kit or just take the stuff off and paint the dash and call it good. It would look alot nicer with all new stuff though. My dad was saying something about painting the dash with laquer as it drys quicker but not sure about what paint to use. Should I prime it first? Any tricks/tips are appreciated I cant wait to get this thing rolling. Also on the carpet insulation, would it be a good idea to undercoat the floorpan beneath the carpet to elimate some roadnoise? Thanks for your time.

Take some #0000 steel wool to the chrome pieces. It will even work on the chromed plastic on your bezel. Give this a try before replacing anything. Also check out prices for what you need from Dallas Mustang. Mustang's Plus runs on the high $$$ side.

Priming is always a good idea. You might also want to paint your doors while you are at it. Just don't use a heavy sand paper on the doors - it will smooth out the factory texture. Don't ask me how I know.

im sure this is a dumb question but how do I get the switch bezels off, like the wiper, lights, etc I need to remove all those for painting

alrighty, got everything off except the heater controls I see the alan head screws on the knobs connecting to the arms, do i just pull those and it pushes up in the dash or is there more? Thanks Need to get this thing painted

Hi,

I primed and painted my dash. Ill post some pics of it later. Definately do some a little prep work on the dash before spraying.
On a 66 coupe that we had, we just used some laquer paint, it came out ok, but using an enamel with clear on it looks so much better.

Also, check the link in my signature, prices are probably a little cheaper than most other places.

Thx for the reply, Should i be using gloss enamel? I dont know too much about painting, but this will make a huge difference on my car. Looks like its gonna be more money than I thought for the chrome stuff ~90$ Just gotta open up the wallet again heh.

That would work, but if the previous paint is laquer, you will have a nasty time. Thus, it'd be better to stick with laquer. Many vendors such as myself, sell the original colors. If you take it down to metal, primer, then u can use the enamel.

You shouldnt have any trouble shooting enamel on top of laquer; Its fresh laquer that lifts old enamel. Alot of spray can primers are laquer based. Its better to stay with one type of paint, but I got by that way.

thanks for the info, so prime ontop of the laquer first then use some gloss enamel
