Haven't heard of one, but that just means that you can be unique. Wouldn't the weight of the diesel engine kill the front suspension on the mustangs?

As a PR piece or R&D mule to draw the public's attention a classic Mustang would be awesome.

Are you looking to tow a trailer or something? It's more appropriate to say that diesel engines are "torquey" as opposed to powerful.

There is a reason as to why diesel engines arn't commonly used in sports cars....

The turbos can get up and move, but the cost and headache of such a swap just doesn't offset the increased towing capacity or mileage that you might get. It doesn't make sense to me unless you just want to be the only one to have one, but it would be interesting to see.

Then you have never heard an intake, exhaust and chip on either a late model Duramax or Powerstroke. They sound awesome.

I witnessed a F350 SUpercrew with the Powerstroke break a 13 second 1320 once (barely but he did). What do those things weigh, something like 6,000 pounds?

Of course with that weight you need torque more than horsepower which is the deisel's strong point anyhow. Just saying, the turbo deisels can get up and move.

Nope, can't say that I have. Anybody have clips of one or something?

My dad told me his 2000 F350 7.3L Powerstroke weighs around 7500lbs.

There is a duramax around here that runs high 11s on nitrous. He wins a lot of the local pulls as well.

it would be cool, but seems like it wouldn't be worth it in the long run.

I would rather spend the time putting turbo's on a sbf then dropping in a turbo'd anchor

I don't have any clips but I was riding my motorcycle through traffic yesterday. To my left was a f350 crew cab with something like a 5" exhaust coming out behind the rear wheel. I don't know what he had done to the truck but it sounded good.

I know a guy who wanted to put a 4 banger diesel in and run bio-diesel through it. Don't know if he ever did it though.

Well. The thought had crossed my mind. Just for the mileage but given the proper persuasion a Diesel can create a TON of HP and a GARGANTUAN amount of torque. A good candidate would be a Cummins 4BT. It is a 4 cyl that could be had in 300 HP / 400 Ft/lb trim from the factory. You can just go up from there. It is a 4 cyl and is the little brother of the 6 cyl used in the Dodge trucks (6BT). It would be about the same length as the 200 CI Ford six.

You will find that you will need to overcome two issues.

1. Weight, the 4BT weighs 700 pounds for the short block. No accessories included. (stiff suspension and reinforced upper control arms)
2. height from the ground to the bottom of the hood. Yep! That is right. Those suckers are TALL. This is a popular swap in jeeps and most of them need at least a 4 inch suspension lift just to keep the oil pan from hitting the front axle.

I personally would love to see it done but I don’t think it is possible unless you want to have a 4 X 4 looking mustang or have a huge trans tunnel and a big bump in the hood to clear the rocker covers and trans if the ground clearance is maintained.

Cheers,
Rufus
