I personally would love to see it done but I don’t think it is possible unless you want to have a 4 X 4 looking mustang or have a huge trans tunnel and a big bump in the hood to clear the rocker covers and trans if the ground clearance is maintained.

Cheers,
Rufus

Well, I suppose you could run some 24 inch wheels like some of the Grand Marquis/Crown Vic's I've seen running around Memphis. These cars look like monster trucks compared to the ground clearance on my Dad's 4x4 Expedition. Its absolutely fuggin' amazing what people will do to cars sometimes. With respect to the subject of this post, a Diesel Mustang sounds about as useful as tits on a snake in my opinion. With that being said, however, I like the idea from an originality standpoint and would be interested to see how it would perform. Go for it!

I like the sound of the 12 valve CTDs that preceded the 24v in the Dodges. They sound just like a big rig, especially on the Jake. I keep hearing that the whole engine is stonger than V8 diesels like Powerstrokes and Isuzu-powered Silverados. The weight is insane like already mentioned. Anything not made of iron is steel.

I know, how about a Cummins N-14? I once saw a big CAT rig engine shoehorned into an early '80s F250. It was a speed record truck of all things.

You guys keep thinking domestic - us Europeans have diesel cars down to fine art - I have a Ford Mondeo turbo diesel that knocks out 115bhp (not much, but the 50-70mph time is just awesome).

BMW have some very neat, compact 6 cylinder TD lumps that won't weigh anywhere near as much as those truck engines, and kick out lots of HP and torque.

I say go for it - get the best common rail turbo diesel you can find, and then whack it full of nitrous: these babies are built strong and can take loads of N20.

Sure it'll never sound as good as a gasoline engine, and driving them is a different technique, but I think you'd just need to give some doubters a ride and they'd be convinced it was a good idea...

My neice has a tiny deisel in her VW, the damn thing gets a REAL 48mpg, of course it can;t even get out of it's own way, but I'd take it over one of those electric cars any day of the week. Even with the weight of the deisel engine it has to be less than all those batteries!

Call Gale Banks. If he can get a street legal diesel Dakota to do 221.XXX mph then I am sure he can figure something out for your mustang.

dude that picture allmost sacred the **** out of me, its not going to look like that!

and they way that i came up with this idea was, i went to europe and i saw that everyone was using desiel engines it was hard to find gas engine, we had rented a Fiat Dioblo which looks like a scion xb (a box) it had a 1.9 4c TDI (Turbo Desiel)
and man that thing went fast. the enigne bay was really small and would definatly fit in a mustang.
