Took the car to Delk today to put it up on the dyno and see what the underdrive pullies, JLT intake and tuning would get me.

Before making any mods, we flashed the CPU back to stock to get a good baseline. In this tune it made 260hp@5250/280@4250TQ, HP was right in line with the baseline we did a couple of months ago (261.1HP@5250/269TQ@4250) but with a few lb/ft more in the torque department.

The plan called for the installation of the underdrives and another pull to see what they might add, but this did not happen because of a missing item in the kit.

Moving on, the next thing we did was install the Predator "performance" tune into the CPU. From what I have read, this tune is good for several HP on the '05's. In my case, however, it was only good for 6HP and 3.5TQ. (270@5250/283.5@4250).

Next on the agenda was the JLT CAI. What you need to know here is that the JLT MAF size is bigger and the unti itself flows much more air than the stock setup. This was obvious as we began the dyno pull and the Air/fuel mixture went lean rather quickly. The Diablo has an adjustment range from 0-40% on the rich side, and we increased it 15% before the next pull. Again, we had to abort the pull when it started to go lean. Making a futrther adjustment of 10% (for a total of +25% from stock) we found where we needed to be. This last pull netted us 288.3HP@6000/284.5@4500. Not only did the CAI make more power, it moved the peak higher in the RPM range. Clearly this is moving some air. It was felt there was more in the car with further tuning, but we ran out of time. At some point in the future (when I have all the underdrive pieces) I will go back and give the car some more dyno time.

In a nutshell, with only the JLT CAI and a tune, I was able to see a +28.3HP/4.5TQ increase over stock. Not too bad, but nothing near what some other are seeing with a dyno tune.

Lightningbug, One thing you might want to look at is the Diablo 93 performance tune. I know several people who have tried this tune and have complained about poor performance. Myself included and it seems that the 91 octane tune works much better and has much better throttle response than the 93 performance tune. Diablo is aware of this problem and is working on a solution. I also have the JLT intake and I agree with you about the airflow, it flows a great deal more than stock and aftermarket systems. JLT is supposedly going to have a Diablo tune for this intake soon. Which should net you better HP/TQ increases over the can tune from Diablo.

There is allot more to a CAI tune for the 2005 Mustang GT then fuel and timing. We at DiabloSport have worked hard to develop custom tunes for specific CAI manufacturers. Using non-CAI tunes in your 05 GT can cause poor running conditions and SES light issues. Not to mention they will not achieve maximum potential horsepower and torque output, not even close.

You can run a DiabloSport Predator performance tune because we offer the adjustability to make the calibration acceptable, but you’re cheating yourself. We can not create tunes for every possible combination, CAI designs can vary a great deal.

Take advantage of the nationwide network of CMR performance tuning dealers and have a custom tune made specifically for your vehicle, this is your best bet for power and safety. Use of wideband A/F and a dyno make all the difference.

Check out the manufacturers who have joined with DiabloSport to create Predators specific to their CAI systems, like Steeda and C&L, when you plug in the Predator it will flash their company logo right on the Predator screen. Now your know your dialed in!

Fine tuning, diagnostics, data monitoring and logging with Predator can make the calibration optimal for your 2005 GT, especially when you’re starting with a dyno tested for and by the manufacturer, CAI specific calibration to start with.

I agree completely, that is why I took the car to Delk Performance, a CMR dealer, and put the car on the dyno for tuning. We used a wideband meter on all the pulls and the tune in the car now is not the out of the box Diablo performance tune, rather it is a custom tune for my specific application.

Nick can you tell me what other parameters need to be changed. I am currently building my own custom CAI and would like more info please. After the CAI is built I will be taking the car to Mike Dez Racing for a custom tune.

If they are a CMR dealer why would you be playing with the pred for fuel control?? why not just tune the maff tables?? The Pred option only control WOT not part throttle tuning.

This is the main question I have been asking. The adjustment we have is for WOT. I want to make sure that you have to have a CMR dealer create a custom tune because of those tables listed above that effect part throttle driving/daily driving. Nick can you please answer also.

It would be hard to do more then offer opinion on what you might need to do for your custom application. The 05 GT is more sensitive to inlet change them we have seen in past Ford vehicles, so where and how you may relocate the MAF sensor, or effect the air flow in or out of the meter is critical.

Shape, size, radius of bends, the CAI systems on the market can vary, not having seen what your doing, it requires some dyno time to really know what each system likes for optimal power/torque and of course safety.

CAI systems in general will generate much leaner running conditions, but this is a simple explanation. I can assure you we do allot more then add fuel to the 05 GT to make it run and drive properly with CAI.

Part of the confusion on the market today is the simple fact that people are running tunes with CAI that have not been properly calibrated for that specific system.

YES, it does matter. The dyno and drivability show us just how much these vehicles are affected by the sometime subtle differences. Do exactly what you planned, CMR dealer on the dyno for a custom built CAI kit, you need a custom tune.

Buy a CAI kit and keep to the Predator with manufacturers calibration, along with adjustability in the Predator, data monitoring and logging time, your dialed in.

Well its nice to see people from DiabloSport comming in forums and helping some people out.. I dont really see others do that.. wish they did then they could get better feed back. I'm just going to wait for the SC upgrade since most placed give a Diablo with the kit.. dont want to pay 400 now and get a second one when I get the SC.. I'm poor =-/

You are correct, the pred is only a WOT adjustment. If you are only at part throttle you will see a change in a/f. The amount may be able to be compensated for with long and short term fuel trims, but..... it may not be. It can cause a det issue or a lean issue, possibley turn on the Check lamp. Get it tuned by a CMR dealer.

Our friends at Brown Brothers Ford are correct; part throttle adjustment is done by a CMR dealer, and will make a difference in the tune and drivability of the vehicle.
Our newest revisions will address some of these issues; keep an eye on the website for revision updates.

Ummm, I should have posted this when you first posted but you are supposed to further tweak a tune once you have an actual JLT flash in hand. Jay frequents TheMustangSource more than here but you should wait for the official tune with his kit. You'd end up seeing much more Torque with an offical tune of his since they get much more dyno time in to get all the possible power out of it.
