Did you buy an extended warranty

If so, what yr/mileage did you extend the warranty to?

If you remember how much did you pay?

Im contemplating whether or not to get one.

Yes I did. Our salesman strongly pushed it since it was a first year model (which are know for issues). We went 5 year 60,000 miles bumper to bumper, just enough to cover us till it's paid off. I can't remember exactly how much it was, but it only added like an extra $5 a month to the payment. I know they warranty was a lot cheaper than any other vehicle I bought.
Once that warranty runs out, hopefully the aftermarket will reasonable prices because it's mod time!

Any Ford sales people or F&I people let us know what cost is for the various Ford extended warranties. I will be picking up my 'Stang soon and want to be informed for that discussion/battle! lol

You can buy Ford's ESP plans from any dealer. There are several that sell through internet. The one I went with was Fordwarrantys.com they were over 900.00 cheaper than my dealer for the 7/75000 premium plan.

Waste of money.

Consumer Reports strongly recommends that you not buy extended warrenties. Extended warrenties are one of the highest profit accessories that Dealers sell. Of course they will strongly recommend them.

First off it isnt a Ford warrenty. Its sold by an 3rd party through Ford.

You already get a 3/36 warrenty for free. So your $1500 or so only buys the 2/24 or 4/49.

How many of you who bought a 5 or 7 year warrenty kept your last car that long?

Not many I bet.

Waste of money.

I bought an extended warantee on my 89 Ranger. BIG waste of money. Thought about it on my 95 E150. Again, it would have been a HUGE waste of money. Now on my 06 Stang, I was offered it, but turned it down. If there's going to be bugs, it'll be in the first 3 years/36,000 miles. If there are, then based on past experience, I'll get umteen dozen offers from Ford to buy the extended warantee before the factory warantee expires.

I'm planning on keeping the car indefinately, so although my $1500 paid for 4/49 it is well worth my piece of mind for the additional 4 years. One new tranny after 36 months will surpass that. Will it happen? Probably not, but at least I know that for 7 years I don't have to worry about it. It's all about preference and well worth it IMO.

On average for every $1 in preiums, these warrenty companies only pay out about 3 cents in claims.

Dude you dont know what youre talking about

1. The ESP program my dealership offers is 100% FORD and its nationwide with Ford tech's and parts, so just an extension of your actual bumper to bumper warranty
2. ESP's sold at MSRP are very low profit items compared to any other product available at the dealership .
here's an example,, if a 5yr/75000 miles plan costs 1500 to the customer (FOLLOWING THE ACTUAL SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICE), the profit on that is around $250-$300.
3.during the first 36m/36000miles of your warranty, you dont have Rentalcare, towing assistant or all the other benefits your secondary ESP would offer.
If you think protecting your vehilce is a waste of money , thats your problem,
but I personaly think the FORD ESP , if sold at the recommeneded price, could be a great protection for unplanned costs,,,, regardless of early or late bugs, mustangs break down too,, after all theyre maid in detroit, not heaven!

Last but not least, I think anyone considering an extended service plan should think about the following things before gettin one:
1. Will you even keep the vehicle for the length of time or mileage that youre payin for
2.what will you run out of first? time or mileage?
3.If you think the price is too high, try to negotiate...
4.Dont forget that besides the PremiumCare( same as bumper to bumper) you can always just get a PowertrainCare for much lower cost , which will protect you from high costs repairs on the Engine and Transmission

BTW, my auto insurance offers towing at no charge, for $3 a month Im covered for a rental, if my car breaks down.

My 05 Mustang warrenty offers roadside assistance for breakdowns at no charge.

As far as extended warrenties being a low profit item, that flat out is not true. That is one of the biggest high pressure sales items dealers use to increase dealer profit.

Anyone who doubts if what Im posting is true or not, do a simple search on the web.

DUH,,,I think if you read my first post I did make it clear that I do sell extended warranties,,, but I sell them at the MSRP, which is a fair price,,, in average if you get an extended warranty 5yr/75000miles, it would add around $20 dollars to your payment...
Also as I said again, its not a HIGH profit item, but some f&i guys add over $1000 to the cost and make huge money , which gives the rest of us a bad reputation,,,
Now if you wanna belive anything and everything you read in the web, go right ahead,,, Did you also know that you would save TONS of money if you switched from Full Coverage insurance to Liability only?? I mean if all youre thinkin about is saving money and not seeing value's in protection your vehicle, why would you want to carry full coverage? or even spend $20 on an oil change for that matter??
Extended service plans are great investments IF bought for the right price,,, To make sure you get the actual MSRP from your dealer go to

put in your info and see what the actual MSRP is,,, then use that number to see how much your F&I is tryin to screw you! That way you know how much you can haggle to get the best deal out of it!

Also if you wanna go purely by consumer reports, they recommend to you to stay away from V8 engines and stick to a 4 cylinder japanese crap!

You can't go wrong with buying the FACTORY warranty. It's those 3 party companies that are scammers. It sure is nice when something major breaks at 48k It really depends on time/mileage.
Oh, and don't buy any warranty if you plan on modding the hell out of it.

If you get a factory extended warranty, it is worth your money. Like said before, there are 3rd party warranties that can get you. The factory warranties are good at any Ford dealership, make sure you ask about this. The 3rd party deals can get you because not ever dealership excepts them. I my advice is get all the facts of who the warranty is through and don't buy unless it's Ford. The other would be alright as long as you never plan on driving your car out of your hometown.
