Hello All,
I mostly frequent the 5.0 and classic section, but I am looking at a 2000 GT coupe with 95K miles listed on eSteal for $9000. It is the stock 4.6/ 5 speed setup. Are there any pros or cons to this year mustang over another? Does it need premium to run? Because a pet peeve of mine is cars that can't run on 87-89 octane. I would figure the computer can pull timing out of it to compensate, but i guess I'm a bit old school with the 5.0 and classics. I noticed the plug issue on this forum with the plugs creeping out, if they stay torqued, is it a big deal? I may eventually pirate a blower from a Cobra and bring the power up, or go with the basic exhaust and intake and 3.73 gear bolt ons. I'd be shooting for low 13s in the daily driver, so I'd like to know what the weak points of the car are so that I wouldn't be caught with my pants down Thanks

oh yes, what kind of fuel mileage city/highway do many of you guys with 3.73s get? My daily driver 89 5.0L gets 23 on the highway and 16 in the city.

a 2000gt will use regular (87 octane).

if you look at the intake manifold and it still has the plastic coolant crossover, have them change it to the 01-04 manifolds with the aluminum coolant crossover.

looks like a good deal man, if u can talk em down to 8k that's a steal. If it's still a plastic coolent crossover use that as a bargaining point saying you'll have to pay to change that out anyway.

what is funny is that my dad has bought cars there since 1991 and he trades in every 2 yrs/8000 miles whichever comes soonest (usually the 2 yrs) and last time he traded for a honda accord with the exact same options and everything. his car was 2 yrs old and 8000 miles old. he paid 3500 for the exact same new car exactly equipped. that's how much they like my dad, but its on ebay now we can't negotiate the price down! :

Looks like the wheels have been changed as those are the bullitt ones and the bullitt was a 2001 model year with some GTs receiving them after 2001.

I don't know if it means anything, but it's something to know if they say it's all original when in fact it's not..

The 99-mid01' stangs used a windsor block platform, whereas afterwards ford used the romeo block.. not really any differenct in H.P. or reliability for the most part(minus the plastic intake... side note: My 00' gt still has the palstic intake and no problems from me so far.....crossing fingers) Plus the tranny isn't the best on the 00' but it'll get you into the 13's like mine has. and pump gas is just fine for it.

Were they still using the T5, or did they move to the tremec? I plan on getting a really good look at the rear gears, engine, and interior to get a really good opinion. Thanks to all for your help in trying to pull me to your side of the forum What else should I know? I would really like a Bullitt but around northern IL those cars go for way over book price. I think this car can work nicely with the correct modification. I hate listening to salesmen commenting on the "alloy, premium wheels" and the "spoiler" and all their lingo. I wanna see the hardware, not the BS

The 2000 GT has the T-45. In mid '01 they went to the 3650.

mileage? god awful - the overdriven 5th gear helps greatly on the highway (I can get about 22 with 3.73 gears), but aroudn town, with my lead foot, it's around 15-16MPG.

Consider yourself lucky it has a T45. It's a stronger tranny. Just do a search on the 3650 and you'll see why.

P.S.--- Cobra blowers do not work on 2v motors.

I took this bullitt on a test drive yesterday:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001...oryZ6236QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

the 2000 was sold at the other dealer. The bullitt has a fake cobra r hood on it but sounded nice. They wanted 10,800 for it with tax, tag, title, etc out the door, which I feel is a bit much even for a limited packaged mustang. Is that price fair? I think I'll drive my junk until I can find a better deal. Maybe wait a couple months when mustang season is over

Wrong. The early 3650's had some problems, but the "fixed" ones are way, way stronger than any stock T45.

Yes thats a good price for the Bullitt. I would want it stock but it has some tastefull mods. Grill delete, hood, JLT cold air, and whatever else we can't see. Go to http://www.imboc.com/main/ to find out more on the bullitt.

At that price, you can't go wrong with a Bullitt!
