Is it true that 1992 and up 5.0 stangs use a different starter? I put a 94-95 tranny in my 87 and the starter wont fit. A shop around me said that in 92 they started using a different starter.

from what i can tell they are different, but all the mini starters seem to fit from 82-95.

can't you grind it for clearance or something?

Also, you probably didnt need to start a new thread when the old one is right down there.....

I thought the starter changed for the 94/95 5.0. I know when I needed a starter I used a 94 5.0 starter and wired a trigger wire to it. I was sick of blowing solenoids.

Around about 92 was when they changed starters.

There's no good reason I can think of why the 5N95 starter should not be workin for ya.

You run a standard ring gear?

Good luck.

I tried using the starter out of my 87. I was told all I had to do was use the correct bellhousing. Guess Ill have to get a new starter as well.

you cant use the starter from the 87. you need the newer style. i dont see why youd need a different bellhousing to fit the starter. you may need a different bellhousing to fit the car, or to make the tranny fit the engine though.

No the bell housing and everything fit in perfect, the only thing that didnt want to go in is the starter. What year should I use? Will a 92 starter work? Just asking because I hear that ill have to run some wires to get the newer starter to work and if the 92 starter is the same as the 87 but smaller than ill just go with that one.
