Pretty impressive little thing, seems like dodge is the only american company on the right track. Their SRT line kicks ass...

http://www.autoblog.com/2006/02/08/aye-carumba-dodge-unloads-the-300-hp-caliber-srt-4/

I think the exterior of this thing takes alot of getting used to but its possible. It surely is practical, im impressed they squeezed out 300 hp out of it though.

It even has a refrigirator in it and a 6 speed transmission!

Id like to learn info about the engine maker...

"The all-new 2007 Dodge Caliber gets its motivation from an all-new “World Engine” produced at the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA) facility in Dundee, Mich. The World Engine is a family of small fuel- and emissions-efficient aluminum four-cylinder gasoline engines co-developed by DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler Group, Hyundai Motor Company and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation."

good/bad?

Thats the first thing I thought when I saw that thing. I hate it an would rather drive a 84 Chevy Caprice.

Looks to me like a cross between a pt cruiser and a durango.
That's not a good thing.
IMO, it's sinfully ugly.
They seem to have the HP issue well under control, but the styling is terrible.
I wouldn't drive it.

The caliber is truely different than the Neon. It's target is aimed at the younger generations that need something big enough, but not an SUV.

It's 300HP
FWD
6 Speed manual
and all of the other SRT goodies that go into it

I personally don't like the shifter placement, but having seen the cars up close and on the roads, the look grows on you.

Ugly POS...looks they`re trying to compete with the other gay looking "sport wagons",eg Toyota Matrix and I think Mazda has a similar offering that I can`t remember the name of,(which is a good thing).

I think it's going to take several years for the caliber to grow on me. The 300 hp is great, but with the tranny only rated for 300 lb-ft of torque, they've already seriously limited it's potential. I wonder how much power the new engine is capable of reliably. My current daily driver is an 05 srt4, and I'm really happy with it, but I can't imagine myself wanting one of these things. If I get another dodge it'll be the Charger SRT8.

honestly the look grows after you see it in person

but the torque rating on the transmission is rated at 300, it comes stock at 260 so that really limits modding

does anyone know if mopar is going to offer the stage kits for them like they do for the neon srt 4?

Honestly, i think its bad ass.. the only problem i see with it is that its not AWD.. the only thing holding me back from possibly a future purchase?

I was dissapointed that it wasn't AWD also.. I guess the equipment couldn't handle the power so they reverted back to a FWD setup.

Maybe in the future, we will see a AWD option on the SRT version? I don't know, but then I would consider buying one.

dont they have an AWD drive version of the regular Caliber, but not the SRT version, i heard that they wanted to keep it priced low so they did away with it

its going to be well under 25,000

alot of bang for your buck i think, once you see them in the streets the look will grow on people - the same way everyone hated the new front of the 2006 wrx, now i seem to like it

wont that thing have bad wheel hop or a big problem getting that power to the ground with 300 hp and front wheel drive launching? i bet that thing will move from a roll though, its probably a fun car on the highway or for spirited driving

Actually a lot of development went into controlling some of the torque steer and wheel hop. It won't be 100% cured because, as you stated, it's a lot of power to be sent through 2 half shafts.

Cost might have been a factor in dropping AWD from the SRT line, but I also heard it was durability of the system (or lack there of.) AWD is a stand alone option on all of the base calibers and standard on the RT version of the line up. You can check it out at www.dodge.com if you want to play around a bit.
