D'oh!

Here we go again..............

There was an article in yesterday's paper about two guys who were arrested for having an illegal speed contest (street race) that resulted in one of the racers losing control at a speed in excess of 100 mph and hitting another vehicle head on! Fortunately the people in the other vehicle suffered only minor injuries as were the driver and passenger in the offending vehicle. This occured at 3:30 PM.

Police said that the wrecked racer was using a.....................................[pause for effect]................................................. "doughnut" spare tire at the time of the accident and it, along with the excessive speed were direct contributers to the crash!

damn that dude obviously had more balls than brains to be racing at over 100mph with a donut spare. just think if he's been using real tires he wouldn't have wrecked and would have never got caught. i think this one deserves honorable mention for a darwin award

Head on at 100mph with minor injuries?!!? How is this possible? What kind of cars were they driving, Volvos? Whatever they were I want one!

Wrong....the guy he was racing was caught too........many, many witnesses with vehicle descriptions and plate numbers........this happened in the middle of the afternoon.

The article said he lost control at 100 mph, I believe he was going a might slower at impact. Both cars in the collision were newer vehicles with all of the usual safety amenities...: shoulder/lap belts, air bags, crumple zones.

In my hobby as a FF/EMT in the last couple of years I've seen cars that you'd swear the occupants didn't survive, but because of their design quite a few had relatively minor injuries.

There was a great column by Brock Yates in Car & Driver years ago about installing an "Intelligence spike" in every car. Basically, it was a needle-sharp spike mounted in the windshield pointed directly at the driver's head. Once the driver stopped being intelligent, the spike took over. These morons needed one....

Only one problem with that concept......if the spike had been mounted on the windshield it wouldn't have been pointed at the driver's head, 'cause he was obviously suffering from a cranio-rectal inversion!
