i dont think i have ever heard this asked, but can you install a new started with lt's, i will be installing my lt's in the near future, and i have no clue how old my starter is, it works fine right now, but if it craps out with the lt's installed will it be a huge PITA to change?

You can heat wrap the LTs to prevent heatsoaking the starter. Ceramic coating the headers inside and out will also help to prevent this problem.

Buy BBK ceramics. The coating lasts quite a while. I installed mine in 2002. I started to feel more heat from the floor in 2005. So I got 3-1/2 summers outta the coating. From 2005-2008 (currently) they are a little rusty on the bottom. Don't wrap them for a street car because it will hold moisture and rust much much faster. Just don't drive in the rain. I got caught in the rain a few times and I think that's how mine rusted, because I rarely drive the car.

You can wrap the starter in heat shield material, thats what I did. It looks like a chipotle burrito! I changed the starter on my 2000 GT with BBK longtubes. Its do-able, but have lots of extensions handy.. I did it in about an hour.

headers shouldnt interfere...but even w/ them off dude you're gonna seriously reconsider replacing the starter when you start trying to get that top starter bolt.

Yeah, the top left is a B. I think LT's would really get in the way where you place your hand - but the extension and socket i put through the a-arm of the k-member kinda through the firewall area ratcheting from the engine bay so that shouldn't effect it too much. I just can't imagine placing it on the bolts with LT's there.

I haven't done it with L/T's but come to think of it I did it with stock stuff and taking off the A/C compressor made it way easier for the middle and upper bolts.
