so I am replacing both hinges on the driver side on a 69 HT. When I removed the upper hinge the backing plate fell inside, does anyone know how to gain access to this area?
Thanks

It’s actually not that hard to remove the dash pad - 3 screws up by the defroster vents and a couple of screws by the radio location and then 3 screws on each end of the pad where there is a plastic cover so to speak.
Hope that helps...

thanks all, it went well, dash and gauge cluster removed, plenty of room to install backing plate and hold it. Now adjusting the door, well that is a exercise in patience. You have to pull the fender, or at least pull the back out to gain access to the hinges for very small adjustments, as previously stated PATIENCE.
Hope this helps someone down the road.
