Doors automatically locking when driving?

Hey guys, quick question. Are the doors on these cars supposed to automatically lock when you first start driving? I know my '01 Taurus did this but I can't remember if my Mustang ever has. Do any of your S197s do this?

My 06 F150 did the same thing but it told how to disable it in the owners manual. I hated it, so I turned it off.

On the AUTOMATIC transmission cars (at least for 2007, which is the year I have)
the doors automatically lock or do not lock, depending on how you have the feature set. The owner's guide describes how to enable it if it is disabled and how to disable it if it is enabled.

Deactivating/activating the autolock feature:

Before following the procedure, make sure that the ignition is in the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position and all vehicle doors are closed.

You must complete Steps 1-7 within 30 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, you must wait 30 seconds.

1. Turn the ignition to the 3 (ON) position.

2. Press the power door unlock control three times.

3. Turn the ignition from the 3 (ON) to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position.

4. Press the power door unlock control three times.

5. Turn the ignition back to the 3 (ON) position. The horn will chirp.

6. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long chirp) if autolock was activated.

7. Turn the ignition to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position. The horn will chirp once to confirm the procedure is complete.

My '06 auto locks at around 5mph and I don't mind since as soon as you pull the door handle, they unlock so I don't see what the big deal is

Aha, it does say "automatic transmission" in the manual. Sorry Art161, didn't notice it. Why would Ford not enable this on the manual trans cars?

I didn't notice it? I even capitalized AUTOMATIC in the first sentence of my post!

uh, I believe he was saying that he didn't notice it. I actually liked having this feature in past vehicles, why doesn't it work with the manual cars?

Hmm.. my doors lock immediately after the car starts- in park. Car is a manual.

If the door is open when I start the car, they do not lock.

On my '04 (automatic), it worked exactly the same.. right after the engine starts, the doors lock.

So.. I'm glad I have this feature.. If they didn't lock by themselves, I would certainly lock them.. I guess it just makes it easier for me.

Here's what I hated about it. If I got out of my truck and went around to the passenger side to get something out and left the truck running then the door was locked. Keys where in the ignition so I had to run back around the truck to unlock the passenger door and then back to passenger side to get item out (only with larger items or I'd just take it out on driver side). Seems silly but actually it would happen more than you'd think, so I just turned it off. My Mustang is a manual and doesn't do it. I can appreciate the safety aspect of it but it was more of a problem to me. To each his own, if you like it leave it on if not turn it off. I'm just glad I had the option.

I really wish that my manual locked automatically after moving like most all other Ford vehicles do. When I consider the neighborhood that I drive through to get to work, I make sure that the doors are locked before I moved, regardless of where I'm going....

Just taking a stab here, but it could be related to the tranny computer. For example, here in good ol' VA, a remote start is illegal on a manual trans. Could be a similar computer deal with the auto-lock function, as far as telling the computer for the trans when or when not to work?

The reason its not on a manual is because there is no "park." On a manual if the signal was to lock or unlock doors when the vehicle is in netural then every time you shifted gears it would lock and unlock doors. Theres just no way to activate door locks on a manual car going down the road. Personally, all the better I do not need the vehicle to lock doors going down the road, I'm not going anywhere.

The auto does look for the car to come out of park and then make a VSS of 5 mph.

With a manual the logic could be writen to see engine start, trunk and both doors closed and finally VSS of 5 mph for say 10 seconds --> lock. No function to unlock automatically as the doors will open from the inside with a pull of the handle. Just a though FoMoCo.
