It has 170 horsepower and they don't particularly impress me. I drove one once and my ZX2 Escort FELT just as fast. I guess they handle well and they look good for a Focus, but its still a Focus.

The Si is an overall fun car but makes merely modest power until 7000 with an 8000 redline. Which means it actually pulls for about a second and a half before you shift.
No torque = lots of shifting to stay in the narrow power band.

I would own one if I already had a bunch of other cars and wanted to try something different.

4 cyl fwd car, best deal on the market is a SRT4 for performance, get pissed if you want but it's the truth.

i wouldnt mess with the SVT focus.
if looking for a fun 4 cyl car, i'd get an srt4 or a DSM car (eagle talon or mitsubishi eclipese) those car are awesome and can be made real fast.

the SVT focus doesnt even have a turbo stock, so besides silly bolt ons, you are going to either have to work the head, swap cams or something to increase power. or add a power adder.

where with a DSM car or srt4 or something, just crank the boost up some.

07 civic si-$20kish
03 svt focus- $7-10K
reg focus- $4-6k
The focus has a lot of room for what it is. I liked. I would have loved to get one, run it into the ground, then drop in a little 289 with a top loader......... those are the shyt.

7000 grand? OUCH! It better be a Ferrari or 28.

a 289 with a toploader in a fwd car that has a side mounted engine. I see that working out nicely.

Cool cars but extremely under powered. Now, if you had the cash to build up a short block capable of handling 25psi or so, and you added a turbo, you'd have one sick car that would handle too. If only we got the AWD option too like the Euros got.

There is a company that produces a kit that converts a Focus into a rear wheel drive powered by a V8....Sean Hyland built one on a show that airs on Speed Channel...It performed very well...
