Has anybody tried the new E3 spark plugs? I have seen a lot of ads for them in magazines, but I have not heard from anyone with any actual feedback.

just wondering if they are worth $6.00 each

this is what they claim:

Yeah, seen the adds too but that line alone had me laughing loudly! Numbers must be from a 78 Escort that never had a plug change!
Seems there is a natural cycle to "wonder plugs", one pops up every 2-3 years it seems.

just another gimmick to pry money from your wallet and transfer it to their bank account.

Well I actually got a set a few months ago after seeing them in a dyno test on Horse Power TV, and put them in my DD Avalanche. They did give me better mileage. The plugs that were in it didn't look too bad, I just didn't know how long they were in it as I got it used. I went from a wooping 13 MPG to around 16. I changed the wires at the same time. They seem to work but hey what do I know.

H.P. TV did a back to back dyno test on a 400hp 383 chevy and it mad an extra 5 or so hp on the dyno if I remember right.

seems like they would work even better with a performance CD ignition. i'd like to try them out sometime in the cougar

oh BTW, i've used the AC Rapid Fire plugs in an old 89 olds cutlass calais with the 2.5L 4 banger and it improved overall engine effciency quite a bit, mileage went up a LOT, like 4-5 mpg, power was up remarkably as well and if any of you have ever driven a 2.5L calais you'd know they need all the help they can get in that area. can't say for sue one emissions but i'd suspect they helped there as well.

i've also used the Bosch platinum +4 plugs in my old 93 jeep cherokee 4.0L six cylinder and they seemed to work pretty well too, not as drastic as the AC plugs in the calais but mileage did go up a little, maybe 1-2 mpg and no discernible power improvement but the engine did run and especially idle a little smoother.

i've also used the split fire plugs in my old 70 cougar and they sucked, didn't work any better than the autolites i had in it before except for right after i put them and for the first thousand miles or so and even then they weren't that much better either.

the 93 cherokee had splitfires in it when i bought it and i replaced them with regular bosch plugs and they worked better than the old splitfires, no idea what the mileage was on the splitfires but i'd guess it was probably close to 50 thousand since the jeep had 150,000 when i bought it and still had the original plug wires, cap and rotor. i did not initially change the plugs, just did the cap, rotor and wires and drove it for a 2-3 weeks before changing them out for the regular bosch plugs and about 15,000 miles later i swapped in the bosch platinum +4 plugs

I guess this dyno test shows their 12% gain. only thing is they did not mention what the other plug was, they only called it a leading competitor.

I ran one for about an hour in a chain saw, before it crapped out and refused to run. There was no visible damage or fouling to the plug, but I replaced it with a Champion plug and it's run perfectly ever since. Anectodal, but relevant...

hmmm . . . the only experience I have with the e3s is in a small motor application.

I have one on my 5hp briggs with a .035" milled head, ported block and gp9200 comp cam.

It "feels" like it runs better on my mini-chopper . . .

The spark looks better than the champion that was in it anyways . . . my $0.00001

used them on Sinister for some time. No problems. Really didn't notice anything in power or gas, but that's not surprising with this car.

I had a problem with one of them in mine. Had to get a new one from summit. It went bad after 50 miles. I thought I screwed something up in the truck at first. Until I read the codes as a miss fire. Funny7 thing is I had to call 3 different dealers to till I found out what the cylider order was for the 5.3. Google was not my friend.

Better crunch those numbers again. Going from 407hp to 412.5 is a difference of only a 1.3%.

I don't have E3 plugs and I haven't tried them, but I do think they are a gimmick.

Did you guys know that the multiple electrode spark plug gimmick has been around for over 90 years?

Gimmick or not, I probebly just needed a good tune-up in the truck (114K miles). Either way I run it harder now and still get better gas milage. And it isn't just a single tank fluke. It has been repeated over 12+ fill-ups.

There is no way I'd spend my money on these plugs. Maybe all the extra metal raises the compression ratio
