Electric cooling fan, whats the best route to go?

what kinds of setups is anyone using?? single, dual?? how about the overflow tank?? Show me some pics and give me some prices, thanks

I got the Mark VIII for ~$150. It is similar to the 94's but with a thinner shroud. Keeps my ~450 NAHP motor right where the 195 Tstat dictates. It also has the two speed option which would help keep the fan quieter or draw less amps if either is a concern. I suggest at least a 1 quart overflow.

thanks, I had looked at the dual be cool fans too. How about wiring, pretty simple and straight forward???

You can get a 3.8L Taurus Fan off ebay for ~$50
2 speeds and up to 4000CFM

Just need to trim the shroud.

Wiring... Do a search.

I just have it on a toggle for the time being, just two wires was all that was needed, but you'll need more for the two speed setup.

Go here to educate yourself about electric fans and control systems. www.dccontrol.com I STRONGLY recommend you automate the fan so that temperature turns it on and off. A short moment's forgetfulness is all that's required to overheat one with fan on a toggle in the 'off' position.

You'll find that folks with used MkViii, Taurus 3.8L V6 fans, SN95 Stang fans and the dual 11" SPAL shrouded unit hardly ever post negative things about them. And a true variable speed control (I don't mean hi/low -- I mean variable current/variable speed) is the only way to control one. Relays and switches are ancient....

I use the SPAL dual 11" set up with a DCC controller -- works better than the factory system on my wife's BMW. And the operating temp is consistent -- 180F under cruise; 185-190F at low speed when the fan is on (set point is 187F).

I had to use a dual set up to move the motors from the center of the rad. where they interfered with the water pump pulley - I have much less room than y'all do in the Stangs.

If you go with the Taurus/Sable option check this article regarding the installation/setup. The DCC controller is definetely the way to go. BTW, great setup you have there Michael, great article too . GL

I have a BeCool dual fan setup. Its very simple if you buy the harness kit with it, but thats another 60 dollars. It does make it an easy install, just hook up ground, battery and ignition power, and a source to switch the fans. I do recommend good mounting brackets for it also. I have a Fluidine radiator and the car always stays cool. Very nice combo.

I run a sn95 fan I bought used for $43 along with a bosch 75a relay and a lighted on/off switch. Been working absolutely flawless for years, I wouldn't run it any other way. You need a 130a alt at least for this set up. It cools my 11:1 347 just fine

I found a Taurus 3.8 V6 2 speed fan that cools mine just fine.

I wired up a Flex A Lite variable speed, soft start controller
that doesn't need any relays. It "soft starts" the fan to avoid
a spike in the startup amperage draw, and it's variable speed
so it runs at partial speed at first but speeds up as the engine
gets warmer over the on temp you set on the controller.

My fan was $40, the controller about $100.

I got mine thru Summit. For the Taurus fan, you
need the more expensive of the 2 to get enough
amp capacity.

I have the Taurus 3.8 with a DC Controller no problems very easy installation.
