92 LX 5.0, turn signals don't work but 4 way flashers do! Changed the fuse and both flashers (all checked out OK). Still don't work. I also have a Painless Performance switch panel in the ashtray that also quit working at the same time, switched for line lock and back up lights. Any ideas for my next move?

What do you have the Painless wired into? i would check that and follow it back maybe a connector under the dash came loose.

Do the turn signals not light up at all, or do they light up and do not flash?

Are there any other items that don't work or are intermittent like heater/AC blower, windshield wipers, radio or ignition?

They do not light at all. Everything else works.

Do you have a working DVM and know how to use it?

If so, here is the turn signal circuit for a 92 Mustang....

Found the problem although it makes no sense to me. If I start the car and turn the key back just a hair, everything works.

Some of the symptoms of ignition switch problems are things that don’t work or are intermittent like radio, turn signals, wipers or heater.

There was a FREE recall on Ford ignition switches. They overheat and sometimes catch fire. That burns up the steering column and sometimes the car interior. Since this is very old information, you may not be able to get the switch replaced for free anymore. The auto parts stores sell the switches for $13-$15.

Saleen0679 was nice enough to dig this up for us awhile back: Replace a 1979-1993 Ignition Switch Assembly

Thanks, excellent article! But my screws were T22 tamper proof torx, not T27. This article should be a "sticky"!
