I am having a problem with the wiring in my car. When I try to connect the battery, the car tries to start and the alarm goes off. I know it is common for the alarm to go off, but on this car it usually goes off for a second then stops on its own. The problem started after the power steering pump hose sprung a leak. After this was fixed, the alarm would go off when the battery was connected and even the button on the keychain would not turn it off. The battery was checked and it was fine. Same problem. I had my cousin who is a mechanic look at it. He said the starter relay needed to be replaced. After this was replaced, I got to the point I am at now. When you try to connect the battery there is a short so hot that the battery terminal and cable begin to weld together. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Thank for the help.

Try to remove the relay that your cousin installed & see if you have the same problem connecting the battery. If you don't, you probably have either the wrong relay or one that is bad. As far as your alarm going off after you connect the battery, this is normal. What's not normal is your car trying to start. Again, this points to what your cousin is thinking.... a faulty connection or relay. Trouble shooting is the only option you have in determining what the prob is. Good luck!
