Buy the TRW manual rack or the flaming river rack

Go To www.stangparts.com and buy the manual rack adapter that adapts the manual rack steering shaft to the Mustangs steering coloum

Install the manual rack. You may have to play with the rack mount bushings. I had to mix and match mine to get what I needed but I dont remember which onwe I used. IIRC early models used a large busing and later models used a small bushing.

The manual rack only came on the early cars. Your 93 is 1" wider front track. Some people have had problems getting enough threads on the tie rod engaged. You may have to use longer tie rod ends. IIRC 87-88 Tbird tie rod ends, sn95, and SVO tie rod ends are longer. When I worked in Autoparts we had TRW parts and all the tie rod ends were listed as the same but I know the factory TC tie rod ends were beefier

I'm also thinking about going manual since the whole power steering system in my '88 is going downhill. Rack was just leaking from both seals, now the whole boot is busted and is leaving puddles of PS Fluid everywhere I park. It sucks filling the pump up everyday! Only thing cool leaving it empty to make it sound like ya got a supercharger! Can I just get a manuel rack from any mustang? 5.0 or 2.3? Flamming River or Junkyard? What you guys think? I'll be installing it with my turboswap, so my system has to last me another couple weeks, any tips on to keeping my steering intact? It was so bad tonight I couldent turn the wheel at all, I was so desprete I filled it up with Auto Trans Fluid.

You're supposed to use ATF all the time.

You can find manual racks on 79-83(??) base model stangs. Power nothing SO look for the stangs with no power brakes and it should not have power steering.

I'm not positive what the difference is, but the manual specs ATF for the pump, so that's what you're supposed to use.

just disconnect ur ps pump from the rack while it is filled with fluid (the rack) and there u go...u got manual steering. This is how i'm doin it when i put my 2.3T in....i moved the alternator to where the PS pump used to be cuz i have a rotated intake, plus it looks more clean.

I have the stock manual rack in my 79 and even with the weight of the 460 up there It is not hard to turn at all. (Harder then PS obviously) The gearing is different though.

I would think by just plugging the lines on the PS rack it would like steering the car when it isn't running.

I would try and track down the manual instead of just plugging up the PS one. I guess with the 2.3 it won't be too bad, but harder then the actual manual ones.

well when the car is moving it is not that hard to steer the car, try drivin to like 60, and then turn off ur engine and steer....might be a bitch in the parking lots, but thats what muscles are for...also since you are plugging it it will still be hydraulically assisted a tiny bit.
