Emissions in Phoenix?

Anybody know how they do the testing for emissions in the Phoenix area? The one time I went in they put some tube up to your exhaust and thats how they checked it. I've heard some people say they just plug into your computer and check for codes. Anybody know how they do it and if they do it differently at certain places?

Yea I wish it as simple as just getting MIL's. When I first got the H-pipe I got MIL's and the check engine light still comes on. Got an SCT chip had them turn off the rear o2 sensors still comes on. If anybody has any ideas on how to get this stupid CEL to turn off for good I would love to know, because I have tried everything I know of.

Are you getting any other codes? Maybe somthing else is setting off the dash light.

Just talked to a friend that is one of the best 4.6 mechanic there is, he said find out what the code is first then if it is co2 MIL's are bad, anything else I will have to call him back. But first step is what code.

The CEL has been going on and off since I got the O/R H-pipe about 6 months ago or so. Most of the time its on but sometimes it will shut off for anywhere from an hour to a week. I'm gonna run down to autozone right now and they have pull the codes and I will write them down and come back on here and post what they are.

P1443 EVAP Vacuum System, Purge or VMV Fault
Several conditions can cause this code to be set. A loose or broken gas cap, a damaged carbon canister, damaged or plugged fuel vapor hose, a damaged purge solenoid, Purge Flow (PF) sensor or Vapor Management Valve (VMV) are all possible causes. A multimeter or scan tool can be used to test the components.

I think I would start with gas cap then go from there.

Tried the gas cap. I took it off put it back on turned it so it clicked 3 times turned the car back on CEL is still on. What is a multimeter and a scan tool and where can I find those or get it tested for what the exact problem is?

Just because it clicks doesn't mean it is sealing as for a multimeter it measures resistance and current, you will have to have a manual to find out what the reading spects are on Purge Flow (PF) sensor or Vapor Management Valve (VMV). As for trouble shooting from here if buying a new fuel cap doesn't do it I will ask My friend if he has any ideas on these other componets.I think a shop will charge you $80 for computer check this will tell you the exact problem, if you chose to have them fix it, will cost you labor and parts. But hold on till I talk to my friend.
