im new to the forum and fairly new to the mustang scene. sold off all my other toys to start my mustang project. i own a 93 gt, currently has just about every bolt on thats out there. in the process of removing the motor to start build up. its just about ready to come out except for the fact that im not sure of which method is the easiest/best way. i was hoping you guys give give me a hand. do i (A): somehow remove the bolts from block to flywheel housing and just pull motor. (B): seperate the trans from the flywheel housing, drop it out and pull motor with flywheel housing attached. Or (C): just pull the motor trans and all in one shot. option A and B leave me with some pain in the a$$ bolts to remove: ( top 2 in flywheel housing to block and top 2 in trans to flywheel housing). thanks for any response -- Joe

All at once, but make sure you drain the oil from the engine and trans first...and then put a spare yoke int he tailhousing of the trans when you pull it or fluid will dump everywhere

+1 to doing engine/trans together, and definitly remember to drain fluids, i was in a hurry and didnt fully drain the fluid from my trans when i had it out a few weeks ago (used a trans jack so i didnt notice the weight difference as much, but it did dump all over me )

i dont know if its just me, but ive never had a problem getting the top two bell bolts.

i have always used a rachet with a lot of teeth and a few different extensions, and have never had a problem dropping a trans

i have one of those ratchets that you twist the handle and it will turn the socket. if that wasnt lazy enough i hook a hose to a cordless drill and slap the other end on the ratchet. voila

dont have spare yoke, thought a bag and some large zip strips will save most of the mess, i will attempt my feat friday. ive pulled other motors before but never together w/trans. does it make for and odd shift in weight once you start to lift the motor just dont want the tailshaft to flip down and hit the floor, maybe my atv jack will help keep it up? it just seems that there is going to be alot of binding up. we'll see. about those top bell house bolts - ive got quite a selection of tools and i cant concoct anything to long enough and flexible enough to turn those darn bolts.. one pull one shot it looks like. thanks guys

I have used a ziploc bag and rubber band to keep tranny fluid from falling out. Also parts store sell an attachment with a long lead screw that makes it easy to shift the weight of the tranny as you pull it out. Came in real handy when trying to install a 440 w/tranny in a 68 charger by myself.

yeah that thing makes it way easier. without it you'll need a couple friends to guide it in.

whats this attachment look like and called? can you find it at your local chain auto store or is it more of a specialty / order only item

I think you can rent it at autozone, its like 2 feet long, 1/2in all-thread the whole length. cant remeber what its called

got motor out last night. had problems with the shifter hardware hangingup, my stupid engine hoist was not long enough to pick over center of motor and i just bought it. i also bent my msd distributor, my chain was against it while it was being hoisted, didnt notice it til too late. all in all not too bad. my escort work cars were way easier though. now begins the rebuild.
