hey everyone... I have recently acquired a 93 GT, and am in process of fixing it up...

one of the things I am really big on, is exhaust, I want it to sound healthy... - I know a lot of fox body's came out with 4-cylinders, and I want to make damn sure noone mistakes my car for one of those going down the road! (the car has had the 5.0 emblems removed due to a new paint job, which I actually like, but now I fear it is'nt "obvious" that it's a 5.0)

the car came with 2-chamber flowmasters, but was very quiet, so I decided to put an off road H-pipe in to make it louder... and the result was barely any change... I have made a video here of both of my cars as a comparison, and the sound I was hoping for.

http://www.fastwearz.com/93gt/

**note, the mustang sounds louder in the video than it really is, if I am driving down the street, say 35mph, and there's a car alongside of me, there would be NO WAY they would hear my car, and I personally just really like loud cars... I am so very disappointed with these 2-chambers.

my question is this: - why would my car still be so quiet with the 2-chambers and no cats????? could it be a loss of compression due to having high miles on the engine? or do I just need to go with 3" exhaust and 1-chamber flowmasters?

I have had 6 5.0L Mustangs personally. 3 of them had a stock headers, o/r H, and 2 chamber Flows. They were all really really loud, with the freeway drone....the whole 9 yards!!!

The only thing I can think of is maybe the converters on your stock H-pipe were rotted out. Catalytic converters are made of screen like platinum/paladiam/iridium. If the insides of the converters broke and then slowly rotted/melted away, your stock pipe may have "sounded like" an o/r. The small change you did noticed is due to the fact that you now have a tru 2-1/2 h pipe and not a 2-1/4 with all the bends and converters openings....which if were hollow....would be open to about 4 inches.

Also, if you have longtube headers, those are quieter than shorties.

ok, this is helpful, I WAS going to get longtubes, thinking that might be an issue, but now I won't!!!!! - I am thinking I need to build a 351 or something with a big cam and high compression, that should make it run better and sound better, and then I will be happier! LOL (No, I'm not talking about building an engine just so my car sounds better, it has his miles, it could probably use an engine anyway!)

I have no freeway drone, the sound of the tires on the road is WAAAAAY louder than the car... the only time driving it that I can evern hear it myself in the car, is around 1900rpm, I can hear it a little bit... but the minute I;m in a higher gear, or just cruising down the road, its very very very quiet. and I just hate that! I was a loud beefy idle, and I want to be able to rev it and have it scare some kid in the ricer next to me!

thank you!!!!
thats what I was kinda thinking... I know there's a few different 351's, is the 351"W" the one I want to build to replace a 302? - sorry, I've been a chevy guy, so I dont know as much about fords, but I will learn as I do this!

if I build a healthy 351 with like 10:1 compression, and a good cam, I could expect to see a pretty big difference in power too from a stock 302!? I would presume.

wonder where I might find a 351 to build... hmmmmm

My 302's were very loud. I remeber back in 2000....for a Homecoming dance at my high shool, I had my Mustang, and my friend had his Dad's SS Camaro. After the dance we were revving our engines back and forth. When I got home my mom and dad asked me if I was revving my engine at school. I said yes. The ysaid "Oh because we could here two cars revving one at a time, and the one car was way louder!!!!" My school is two miles away and we live in a small city, so there are many houses, trees, buildings, and traffic...it's not like we are on farmland.
