So, I am looking for new exhaust note for my mustang. Looking for an axle-back exhaust. I have a few in mind Flowmaster outlaw series, Ford Racing GT500. I am looking for a aggressive sounding exhaust note. Does anyone have suggestions?

I have the Flowmaster Outlaw axlebacks. They sound very aggressive but the drone is painfully loud at 1750-2000 RPM (I have the 3.73 rear diff so this happens around 70 mph in 6th gear if I remember correctly). If I could do it again I'd go with something with baffles to cancel out the drone. Maybe the American Thunder series axlebacks?

Sadly I have an auto (3:15) parents wouldn't let me have a manual, but I love my car regardless. Thanks for your help.

Borla S Types are pretty aggresive when you get on them. Not loud at all when you are doing 55 on the highway or at idle. No drones either. Mine's a manual with a 3.31.

I love my Roush axle backs. I feel they're aggressive, but not a drop of drone (I know drone - my Fox had FM 40s and 3.73s.). The car is quiet as stock when cruising, but makes noise as soon as I get on it. Another selling point for me is the rolled 4-inch polished tips.

I've got the Bassani Race Oval Axle Backs with 3.73's and absolutely love them, nice muscle car note when idling, however when you get on it, they come to life and really make some noise. Numerous complements on the exhaust note.........I listened to like 50 different ones before I decided on them. They will take a chunk out of your wallet, but very nice.

Cheap muffler deletes like Pypes are really loud and they sound awful. The ATAK is expensive, loud and they sound awful too. Most guys who have the Borla S really like them but they're expensive and a few guys complain they're too refined sounding. The Roush axle backs have a love/hate following. They can be pretty obnoxious at full throttle or if you add an off-road pipe or headers. The Roush don't drone though I'd call them more of a Nascar sound if you're into that. I think Flowmaster outlaws sound good but they are loud to the point of attracting a lot of attention and the drone is terrible. For my car I found some new take-off GT500 mufflers for $200 just to try them out. OEM fit and durability, they don't have silly logos and they don't piss off the entire neighborhood. At first I thought they were too quiet but they seem to have gotten louder. Axle backs only do so much and until I put headers on the car these sound a lot better than the stock mufflers and for the $200 bucks I paid for them they're great.

I've heard muffler deletes in person on a Coyote and it sounded horrible. Roush sounds great if the rest of the exhaust in stock. I've heard a few different variations with O/R pipes and or resonators deleted - way too raspy for me.

yeah, I don't want anything raspy, just something that keeps the deep throat V8 sound. not deeper tone though

My best advise is hear a few different setups in person because everybody has different opinions of good sounding exhaust. I went to a car show/cruise with 700 Mustangs - I did a lot of listening and asking. That's how I picked my Roush's.

I tried a lot of youtube videos and were no help at all.
