My new exhaust system is on the way and i am going to put it on my 87 GT. the system is a Pypes off road x pipe and 2.5" muffler system. I'm taking the stock off. never done anything with the exhaust on this car yet. Any pointers?

The x-pipe should be pretty easy, but a second pair of hands to keep the tailpipes aligned is always helpful. You'll need to maneuver them up and over the axle and it can be a big PITA, but it is doable. Just take your time and you'll be alright.

Depending on how clean the car is, hopefully you won't snap the header/h-pipe bolts/studs. That will suck. Other than that, everything bolts up great. As stated above, a friend will be nice to help you hold the tails in place.

A tip I would like to share is...when bolting the mufflers to the H-pipe, I usually place a 1/2" extension between the lower torque box and the muffler. This way the muffler won't twist when you are tightening the bolts. If it twists, it hits the torque boxes and the noise is very loud in the car. I do the same thing while bolts the tail pipes to the muffler. I place the 1/2" extension between the tailpipe hump and the frame rail. This gives you enough room so they won't hit. (Some mufflers are different sizes, so I had to do this with Flows and MAC's, but my Dyno Max Super Turbos had more room, where I didn't need to space them out.)

Another tip....Don't tighten the bolts super tight until all the bolts are in and snug. Get your gaps good between the exhaust and body/frame, then tighten incrumentally. That way nothing will get outta line. Works everytim for me.
