Motor is a stock rebuild and the heads have like 600km on them since I rebuilt them (valve job etc). The car runs good, other than a surging idle problem. KOEO I get code 11 - Checks OK. Heads have been milled .010" and i'm using flat top pistons instead of the dished ones out of my 88.

Here's my results with 87 octane and 10* timing..

40km/h
HC ppm - Limit 66 - Reading 148
CO% - Limit 0.37 - Reading 2.75
NO ppm - Limit 0757 - Reading 51

Curb Idle
HC ppm - Limit 200 - Reading 352
CO% - Limit 1 - Reading 2.15

With the little added compression, should I go to a hotter plug?

Let me know what you guys think.

Added compression will show up in the form of higher NOX levels (cylidner temps). I'm not sure about the CO, but the car is running very rich as indicated by the HC levels. This might have something to do with your surging idle issue.

Dial back the timing and get some cats on that thing and you should be well withing tolerance..try the big two cats from local autoshop rather than the stock H. Next a buddy had good luck with just and oil change..did it help? don't know...but it passed after. Look at 6 degrees initial on the light and see if that helps..the LT's move the O2's down farther and that can cause a rich situation...you could resort to the stockers if need be...new engine should pass without smog if it's set up right. Next and last but VERY nice option...find a shop that will allow you to test under the 'DRIVE CLEAN HOT ROD ACT' under this act you can test under the 1980's limits.
