FINALLY found out why my car doesn't run on its own!!

For awhile, I have a wiring system hooked up to my car bypassing the ignition so I can get my car to work. The reason why my car has not been able to run has been baffling for several months now. Saturday, I went in for a diagnostic at the Ford Dealership and they told me my CCRM was shot because of an electrical short in the main engine feed loom.

"Determined there is an electrical short in main engine feed loom causing enging not to start and shorting out CCRM module"

Ford quoted me $800 for the repair. CCRM cost $200, though I found the part for $100 at Shuck's aka Checkers.

How "easy" would it be to find that electrical short? Has anyone had a problem similiar? I would prefer to not take it to someone that charges $100 an hour. Not sure if my personal mechanic can find it but is there a diagram of some sort to help guide?

No info about your car's model year, EFI or carb, no mods listed. Makes it hard to troubleshoot when we don't know what you have.

Therefore, no clue as to which wiring diagram you need. The wiring changed several times between 79 & 95.

That's why it is a good idea to use the sig under the user control panel (User CP) option. It allows you to post your car year & mods, which help greatly when troubleshooting things. No, it is not there for us to snoop and see any "Secrets" you have hidden away under the hood. Be a good stangnetter and update you sig for future reference & don't keep us guessing.

if you are savy, you can run a current through the bad wire and use a compass to find where the short is. Run the compass along the wire - when it changes directions, you found the short.

A short circuit sufficient to keep the car from running would be blowing fuses right and left. If you are not blowing fuses or smelling burnt electrical wire, you have another problem. The most likely source would be a defective ignition switch.

Just a shot in the dark... my buddy that has a 93 GT and had a similar problem. He had purchased the car used and after about 6 months, it would not start, no changes, he was not working on the car... nothing. Turns out that the hack PO had spliced into harness that powers the computer (have no idea what he had in there), but the tape that was wrapped around the wire fell off and the cut was in direct contact with the metal wrapped ground wire in the same loom. (at least that is the story the mechanic told him)

Wish we would have know about the compass thing. It cost him $600 for a shop to find it.

If you put a battery of large enough capacity on the wire with the short you won't need a compass, just look for the smoke.
