Yea you are lucky! Cars get battered up here. This GTO I did had about 70% of its metal replaced due to a backyard mechanic "fixing" rust. There's only one way to fix cars that bad and thats to replace EVERYTHING. lol Luckily the roof skin on the AAR is absolutly perfect!

Man, it's a shame the original engine/trans are gone. It'll never be worth as much without them, but that's still very much worth saving. Keep us posted!

My Dad use to have one about the same color. Then he got a '70 340 cuda that was yellow and black.

That's a cool car.Stock is the best for those.That engine in the pic is a small block,not a 440.Big blocks have the distributor on the front.

Just noticed something "fishy" with that Cuda. The tail panel & lights are from a '71. So either someone put a '70 grill on a 71 shell, or the tail panel was replaced at one point. Or..this could be a huge factory screw up..

No progress has been made on it yet. We have a couple big projects going on in the shop now.

All we were told is that it was a 440, we could be wrong. I don't know mopars all that well. After this car I will tho haha.

And yes the taillights were changed at some point. Who knows what happened over the last 40 years. There are rutgers frat letters all over the car so most likely some college kid had it and beat the balls off of it for a while and screwed it up. I mean, how often do you see GT's with LX taillights lol.

LX tails are cleaner though.

i love both 'stangs and old mopars so this is interesting. there's an "AAR" 'cuda in a neighboring town but i have no idea how to tell if it's a true AAR. haven't stopped to get the vin either but it just sits out in the guys driveway... no garage or anything and we've had a couple good snows these past couple weeks.

To see if it's a real AAR Cuda check the vin the first few numbers should be BS23J0
B = Plymouth Barracuda
S = Special, AAR 'Cuda
23 = 2 Door Hardtop
J = 340 290HP 3-2BBL 8 CYL
0 = 1970
The motor it the car is a small block if it was a 440 the distributor would be if the front.
On the side of the block the size will cast on the side.Also check the fender tag for code
D21 for 4 Speed Manual Transmission
D31 for A904 3-Speed Auto Trans.
D36 for A727 3-Speed Automatic Transmission

We know for a fact that its a true aar cuda. A guy stopped by our shop that has two aars and verified that its a true aar car. I do stand corrected about it not being a big block. Its definatly a original D21 four speed car. There's a nasty patch where the hole use to be for the four speed stuff. lol
