I noticed on mustangtuning and ford racing parts they now have slotted and drilled rotors. has anyone had experience with these, are they any good? i can't do the bullit/cobra upgrade because it will not clear my winter wheels .

Yeah that's what I was thinking, can't go wrong with a Ford Racing part.

I have had them on my car for about a year now. No problems at all. I was told the crack, but no cracks or warping.

They're cool for normal street use, but if you plan on auto-xing or open-tracking, do not get them...they have the potential to crack under the high heat generated from aggressive braking (somewhat likely at an auto-cross event, definitely likely at a track day).

I most likely will not be autoxing, just for street use. my rotors are about to that point so I was just thinking of a good upgrade for stock sized rotors. thanks everybody.

Now is this a rotor design or brand thing. Ive heard/read if its a plain design rotor thats been drilled it can crack but if its made with the holes/slots its better. When I got my brake kit (not FRPP) I was told to go with the drilled/slotted since I plan to do some open track and auto-x this year. Will help keep the rotor cool. silver cadmium plated too. I havent had them much more than a month but did a li'l auto-x test and love 'em.

Why can't you just swap beck to the stock brakes when winter shows up? It's just 2 bolts and a quick rebleed of the brakes. Shouldn't take more than 1 hour both sides total

Upgrading to drilled/slotted rotors will not increase brake performance at all...unless your stock brakes are already smoked.

Dunno about FRPP but you can get drilled, slotted, or drilled and slotted with silver or gold finish rotors wit black or red calipers and braided steel lines at musclemotors.com

In the FRPP catalog it says that the FRPP drilled/slotted rotors are "not for track or competition use".

A more complex issue than usually thought, I think...

It's usually a design thing...drilled rotors actually decrease the surface area of the rotor, which inhibits cooling. On a road course under aggressive braking, heat tends to collect at the holes, which leads to the aforementioned cracking.

Slotted rotors however are considered a better bet.

But as people have noted, if drilled rotors are so bad, why does one of the best peformance cars companies (Porsche) in the world use 'em? Answer I've heard is that Porsche casts not drills the holes into the discs.

I've heard that Brembo now has a kit with the same thing, so drilled rotors *may* be okay after all (some of them anyway)...

I have them and they rust like crazy when i don't drive it for a few days. the center where the pad doesn't hit is rusted. I'll be switching to 2 piece rotors next time.
