There are over a couple dozen order types but the most common are 'retail' (code 1) or 'dealer stock' (2). SSPs are almost always one of several 'fleet' order codes (4, 5, 6, 9, C, L, etc). The order type code is in position 22 in the VOI (the blue lines of codes) on deluxe reports. Marti takes that Ford VOI and interprets it into a readable report.

Received the Marti Report today. I tell ya, for 50 bucks I thought there would be a lot more info than just 1 piece of paper with 95% info that’s already known. The only new info I got out of this were the interesting dates which is really what I was looking for anyway. If this is the deluxe report and I only imagine what a loss the regular report would be. Just saying....
Anyway, my car was built on 6/3/91.

It's intresting that it took 8 months to sell from the time it was released. Was yours a dealer demo, which is why it took that long to sell? Mine was a dealer demo

I don’t know if it was a demo or not.
It’s an AOD so I’m thinking that may have something to do with it because most people wanted the 5 speed I would suspect. AOD prob sat on the shelf waiting for someone to settle on it. Lol I noticed that though and was thinking the same thing (why so long to sell).
Interesting stuff

You can also get an original door sticker. That’s awesome for guys that are missing it or have one that’s not legible. Good stuff!

Too bad I removed it.

I was gonna put together a display box for the garage with the reports, my buck tag , my axle and transmission tag (off the original AOD) and anything else that would be appropriate.

So I just did a little more reading and it seems my car was possibly a demo. The order type says “Stock” on my report which means an individual did not order the car. The car was ordered by the dealership to put on Display. So they either kept it intentionally the rest of the year from June when it was made for display and demo purposes and then sold it in Feb 1992 as a left over or they ordered it to have in stock on the floor to sell but it just didn’t sell. If it was a customer order it would have said “Retail” on the report. Interesting..

Titanium90,
So in addition to the info in my last post about the car being ordered under the catagory “Stock” for the dealers use and not by an individual, I just took a look at my CARFAX report and noticed that when the car was sold 8 months after delivery to the dealer that it had 58 miles on it. With that said I think the answer to your question if my car was a dealer demo or not would be Yes, it was.
The first owner bought it in 1992 when it is a 1991 and with 58 miles. Sounds like a demo to me.
Thanks for asking that question which made me dig into this further. Lol interesting....

58 miles seems low for a demo vehicle. Maybe not?

Checked the carfax on my car and it was titled originally on 4/25/88 with 5 miles on the odometer. Sold date was 3/11 so not sure what happened during the 5-6 weeks in between.

PS. I found the original owner. Looks like some new info found it’s way to the Internet. She’s 83 years old and in Sarasota FL now. Hmm…..

5-6 week gap before title, interesting. Only Barbara can answer that. Can’t help but to wonder, right....
wow, she bought your car when she was 49. She’s 83 now and still around. She would be able to provide a whole lot of info about your car. I would be so tempted to reach out! She had a lot of fun with that car and knew exactly what she wanted when she ordered it. I was just down in Sarasota 2 weeks ago. Small world! I think I would write her a letter and include some photos maybe and see if she’s open to chat. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity being her age now. It would kinda be the cherry on top getting to speak with the original owner from 1988. Amazing! Just saying. Lol she may have had kids back then whom were young adults already being that she was 49 at the time of purchase and the kids remember that car and can provide info as well.

By VIN number my 90 GT is within 70 of the production total for 1990. It was built in July 1990 and original owner bought it late March 1991 - right in the middle of our Canadian winter. She lived within 5 minutes of where I grew up. My younger brother hung out with her son back in grade school/high school and remembers the car in their driveway when he would go over. Later I played some rec softball with her other son. Small world. I would like to find her and show her the car someday. I did that just after I got the car back on the road with the 2nd owner and his sons, took them for a little ride. I am the 3rd owner.

That is an awesome and amazing story!!!! Good for you! I would love to know the history of mine as you guys do. The first person to buy and where they are now. That’s incredible that you and your younger brother have ties to the car and he remembers it and that you got to meet the second owners and drive them around! Truly a great story! Thanks for sharing that!

Hey ya know what 5L5, I was just thinking, being that Barbara was 49 when she purchased your car new that she may have purchased it for a son or daughter. Maybe a high school or college graduation gift for let’s say an 18 year old or 23 year old but kept it in her name to make the payments, get lower insurance rates, etc..... Therefore your true 1st owner who actually used the car and can provide info and stories for you may be a whole lot younger than Barbara and only about 55 nowadays give or take a few years. Anything is possible.
It Would be cool to know the story behind it. Maybe some kids mom Bought him a new Stang 34 years ago! Lol nice! Either way would be interesting.

91AOD5.0LX,
You may be correct about your car being a demo. I enjoy these details about a car.
Mine confirms that it was a dealer demo. It was released to dealer on March 13, 1990 and sold on October 30, 1990.

"Stock" (order type code 2) and "Stock-Dealer Demonstrator" (B) are two different order types. Now whether a dealer used the car however they pleased after they took delivery is unknown. But "stock", according to Marti, is a dealer order for 'display' at their location, probably on the sales lot or inside the showroom. A "demo" would be for purposes other than sitting on the floor or the lot.

Very cool how it specifically indicates that. I see ours took about the same time to sell. 7-8 months.
Fun details! I love this stuff!

It is the only 88 Mustang hatchback with an engine block heater that also had all of the items above it (LX, hatchback, 5.0L, AOD, 1C paint, FD trim, sunroof, 2.73 LS, and electric mirrors).
