prep it right and use a primer or adhesion promoter.. if it chips you did something wrong and re-prep and paint it again.. get a rattle can of clearcoat to make it shiny. I usually use satin black with a clear over the top and it turns out pretty nice and doesn't fade as bad as straight satin will
you could get a rattle can of black laquer, Pardon the spelling, at any parts store. it does a great job very close to the black body color. just sand the horse with 500 grit spray 2-3 medium coats of primer and 2-3 medium coats of the black. thats what I would do.

The smoke looks pretty good. I did it to my spare emblem just to see what it would look like. Though since I lost it while moving. I really cannot take a picture of it. But the paint works well. And it still keeps some gloss.
