Hey. Car has been into the dealership the last couple of times for simple things and I keep getting hounded to do the fuel system/injector service. Car has 74K on it, and I just replaced the fuel filter 5K ago. What else would the dealership do in that service package that I could just do on my own and not pay a bunch of money to them? They couldn't be doing that much to the system I would think. Thanks!

The fuel injector cleaner isn't a bad idea to do every couple years. You will feel a difference, especially if you have never done it. You could always try Seafom-ing your engine if you want to try and save some money.

The in the tank cleaners do very little to nothing to clean fuel injectors. in it's concentrated form it is very strong but when put in a tank of gas it gets dilluted so much that it doesnt do any good. now if the dealer is doing a true fuel injector cleaning they will stop the fuel pump, disconnect the fuel line at the rail and hook a machine up to push a high concentration cleaner through the injectors while the engine is running. does a great job and is recommended at my shop every 24,000 miles. it is especially important now because fuel standards are not as great as they used to be and injectors get clogged more easily. in tank cleaners dont work and are a waste of money...no matter what brand. i know it can be expensive...we charge 129.95, but the machine we use is $5,000 and it takes the good part of an hour.
