Fuel Pump Issues

Ok, a little background first.
Car is a 1998 gt
30# injectors
Aeromotive stealth 340 pump
new motorcraft fuel filter
rest of fuel system is stock
return style fuel system

In april i had the stealth 340 pump and the injectors installed by the guy that does my tuning. Ran a dozen passes at the track and put nearly 1000 miles on the car. No issues at all.

Second weekend in june took the car to erie,pa from pittsburgh. Long story short, came home on a flatbed. Pump was only pushing 8psi at the rail.

I went through the entire fuel system. Checked all the electrical components, checked voltage, checked the relay and the CCRM. Everything was ok.

Summit exchanged the pump for a new one. Installed the pump, 34psi at the rail. The next day put the tank back in and rechecked the pressure, only had 24psi at the rail.

Got another new pump. This time 27psi.

Since then i have tried swapping fuel rails, direct wiring the pump from the battery, running the pump in the tank without the fuel hat, bypassed the filter, even plugged the return line from
the rail. Still only 27psi.

Tonight i wired up a Walbro external inline pump from a NOS kit that i got off CL. I still had the return line plugged, and the Walbro hit 70psi and was still climbing.

Now my problem is why is my car killing the 340 pumps? Is there a better pump for my car? I know 98's are odd balls when it comes to the fuel system but this is getting a little ridiculous. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. ty

The 98 does have a two speed fuel pump with a ballast resister. It would be handy to know what the voltage is at the fuel pump. A low voltage will tell you that the low speed ballast resister is in line with the supply.

When i checked the voltage, i had 12.15v at the tank connector with the car off. 13.58v running. The voltage varied less than 0.2 volts between the battery, the CCRM, the relay behind the glove box, the connector at the fuel pump disable switch, and the tank connector. Car off or running 27psi is the best it gets. Disconnecting the vacuum line at the regulator also doesnt change the pressure.
