Hey all, got a few questions if ya have the time. Im in the process of converting my stang from a 4 banger to a 302. My gas tank rubber seal ($27.97 from ford dealer! for a piece of rubber!) that connects to the filler neck is leaking. I was told from a friend of mine at work that i would need to drop the whole tank to put the new seal on. That true? And if i do, since the tank is off , i was going to replace the fuel pump. What size pump should i put in that will work for a 4 banger as well as a 302. Id like to get the biggest one possible. Since i dont want to have to do this again.
Thanks

Well....if you just want it to work, the stock one will be fine. Most people don't know this, but the 5.0L and the 2.3L use the same 88Lph fuel pump. Personally....if any mods are in your future (and they probably will be) I'd go no smaller than a 155Lph pump.

i agree with the no smaller then 155lph, when i had the stock pump still in my car, at high rpm the pump couldnt pump the gas fast enough to keep the pressure up. the 155lph is gr8 for stock, but if u going major hp think of going bigger later.

would you need to run a pressure regulator with a 155lph fuel pump?? I did the swap too and the stock pump does work for both. same as you I also want a higher flowing fuel pump for my later add ons

No. You don't have to drop the tank to replace the rubber grommet. You can get one from 50 resto for 19.95
Fuel tank seal
As far as the pump goes, I would go with a 255lph. You will always have plenty of fuel for whatever future mods you make and will only have to replace it once. It will not affect drivability on your stock motor.
