Fuel pump?

Hey guys... well this is my issue.. last Saturday I drove my car to the store with nooooooooo problem.. came back out and started it up and it starts fine but it shuts back down unless I keep my foot on the accelerator... after about 5 minutes the problem seemed to go away.. So today 4 days later I leave work, car is running great, go to the gym, leave the gym start car and it won't stay running unless I'm giving it gas.. even while driving everytime I had to stop or slow down I'd have to put it in neutral and stay slightly on the gas to keep it runnin.. I get home and 5 minutes later I start it up and it runs great again.. Now my question is this.. I've ran out of gas about 3 times so could this be the fuel pump going bad? I checked all the vacuum hoses and such.. help me out guys

IAC valve. very very common problem on most fords.

Absolutely the IAC. AutoZone ones are $50 and Motorcraft ones are $90. It may be possible to clean it out with carb cleaner and get a bit more life out of it.

It is deffinately your IAC.. Buy some Throttle body cleaner from your local auto store. Then do A search online for directions to clean the IAC.. VERY EASY and I havnt had a problem since... Its been 8 months now runs like a champ

damn again.. I just put a brand new IAC valve on there like a year or two ago.. I didn't mention that because I figured it was still good.. I had initially thought that too at first... thanx fam:SNSign:

ok, when was the last time you serviced the PCV system? thats what clogges-up the IAC's

Actually I just put a new pcv valve in last month.. brand spankin new..

not directly at you

the aftermarket PCV valves draw way to much vac/air outta' the engines crankcase and all that oiley gunk goes into the intake tract, clogging up the IAC, sludging-up throttldys and just junks-up the whole intake.

I wish someone would make this a stickie. DO NOT BUY AFTERMARKERT > IAC valves, TPS's, O'2 sensors & monitors, PVC valves, ECT's, IAT's and or any other sensitive electronic equipment for Fords, they do not meet Ford specs which are critical on todays engines.

LOL interesting.. is it a Ford brand or like Motorcraft I should get then? Also should I go ahead and take it off and clean the IAC at this time?

yeah, go ahead and clean the IAC and get a Motorcraft PCV valve, what year is your car?

cool.. my car is a 96 GT.. but hey a stang is a stang right lol.. thanx for the help bro..

ok, well the Motorcraft part # for the PCV valve you need is EV-98-B
and if you car has alot of miliage, could be time to start replacing other things. now if you have trouble locating Ford or Motorcraft parts, let me know as I know someone who can help get you the right parts and a very good price

Thanks again.. My car has 135k miles on it right now.. I am very adamant about tune ups, oil changes and maintenance like that.. this is the only problem I've had out of it besides when the belt tensioner arm broke.. but that was an easy replacement... Well I think I may need to have the piston rings replaced because when I sit at idle for a bit it smokes, and the smoke smells like burning oil.. but outside of that it runs great.. and I've driven it from Detroit to Baltimore, Atlanta, Southern Illinois, Chicago and Ohio with no problems..
