Functional side scoops

Any ideas on how to make the side scoops on my 99' Cobra functional. I dont like the plastic honeycomb look on 'em.

I hate that we have the plastic insert in there too. I hope someone has a decent way of making them functional.

Someone correct me here if I'm wrong, but wouldn't cooler air over the rear brakes make for some serious warpage? At least without a decent brake upgrade....

I think kenny brown has an available option to make them functional. CDC might have one too. worse comes to worse just go with Bullitt side scoops

1. create more drag at speed
2. make some more wind noise
3. look better while being entirely useless
4. maybe cool off the rear brakes that don't get too hot anyway.

Why don't you make them less noticeable by installing the Bullet scoops. The only thing ugly on the 99-04 cars are those fuggly side scoops. Without them the 99-04 cars would be one of the best looking Mustangs.
!Oh, the hoods are ugly too except the 99+ Cobra style hood.

Your car would be the envy of the Civic crowd if you removed the honeycomb inserts and mounted neon lights in their place. Curbside lighting . . . . now that's functional.

Warpage from getting colder air? Hardly! Think of it this way, if the temperature outside is freezing cold, would you be worried about warping your brakes? The rear brakes cool off plenty the way they are set up now, and like another member said, they don't nearly get as hot as the fronts do at least.

I have to agree however that the honeycomb panels on our cars are fugly! Maybe I should look at some bullitt scoops too.

the 94 and 95 mustangs had little slits behind the scoops so they were "functional" i didnt think they had it until a buddy with a 95 gts pointed it out to me. it seems ford only did it on the 94 and 95 stangs for some reason

These have been some of the funniest answers I've ever read. Thanks, and I learned from some too.

It's funny how/why Ford does some things. The '94 thru mid '95 models, the side scoops flowed through and exited the inner rear fender wheelwell. (The scoops didn't do anything but at least air could go through.) Then to reduce interior road noise or to save money and skip the step to punch the holes out for the late '95 and later models Ford 'filled' in the outlet holes in the rear wheelwell. Then, for the '97-'98 models Ford filled in the inlet holes giving it the appearance that there was still a vent there. When Ford announced the '94 model they said that they would not install any non-functional scoops on the car that would give the car an "artificial" (quote) look.
Ford, starting in 1999, what the heck happened ???!!!!!

I know CDC started making a kit to make them functional, but the last thing I heard was they stopped making them b/c no one was buying them. BTW, I think I would be pretty cool to make them functional...remember on one of the cover of 5.0 Mustang and Fast Ford, there was a gray and black convert that was burning out and had smoke coming out of the side scoops, now that looked tight.
