How do you find out what gears you have in your rearend? I have a 2001 yellow GT, stock except for a K&N and a 5-speed.

It should have 3.27's if it's the stock gears. What rpms do you cruise at 70mph ?

If you look at your differential cover, there should be a little metal tag on one of the bolts. It should have some numbers and a letter or two that says what you have. If I remember correctly (this was a year ago), mine said something like "3L27", meaning I had 3.27's. And when I got it apart, I had 3.27 stamped on both my ring and pinion gears. Put in some 4.10's, and you will forget all about those stock ones.

You must have a 5-speed because with my auto I'm doing 80 at around 3000RPM.

Either way, you'll love 4.10's if you decide to do gears.

3L27 is, in fact, a 3:27 Locker

He wasn't asking what gears should he get for performance. He was asking what gears does his car have. Dumb asses lol.

I run about 2200 in 5th at 70. I had an idea it was somewhere along those lines. I don't know if I want to tear into that car yet, I have enough junk cars as it is. Well anyway, thanks for all of your input.

A Calculator can be found here:

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/608.shtml

If you have the 3650 transmission, the ratios are as follows:

Gear Ratios
1st 3.38
2nd 2.00
3rd 1.32
4th 1.00
5th 0.67
Rev 3.38

For VIN or VCL decoding for late model Mustangs, go here - http://web.tampabay.rr.com/theflock/mustang/doorplate.html

By the way, the Mustang doesn't come with a "Locker" rearend. "L" stands for 'Limited Slip'. Similiar but definately not the same thing, and I guess this is what mcmmotorsports meant in his post above.
