You can legally download and install XP now. I wonder if Office 360 will run on that.

Probably not.

Hold onto that license key though.

Maybe a dumb question for you guys, I'm computer savvy but not as much I guess.

How does one download and install Windows XP onto a computer that will not boot up?

Burn XP on a disc. Access your boot sequence, by pressing F1( I think ) after you power up. Make your cd drive the first thing on your boot sequence. Restart with the XP disc inserted.

...or USB drive. Lookup, "Creating Windows Boot Media".

That's the problem it doesn't have a rom drive in it. I could swap one in from my other pc but not sure it's worth the hassle. My goal is to sell the computer but if it's not worth much then it's not worth much time working on it.

I may try the usb option though.

Has anyone heard anything about a newer release of mobile graphics cards happening anytime soon? Before dropping the money on a portable, I'd like to know the graphics chip/card is not going to be obsolete in 30 days. Currently the Nvidia 980M is the latest. Is it soon to be replace by the next generation? I can't seem to find any info on that.

Thanks in advance.

yeah, I just found out that Nvidia is releasing their Pascal chip this summer which is 10x faster in performance than their current Maxwell chip. No word on when the mobile version will be available.

Exactly and there's always the next greatest thing. the big convention introduce and they release around Christmas.

Here's the thing though... We already talked about gaming systems with docking stations... that's one way to future proof. That aside, cards that will play current games near max will continue to perform for some time. You will see the frame rates start to dwindle. It won't be overnight.... I got nearly 4 good gaming years out of my last one and another 3 that were still decent.

Yeah they are making plug in boosters now that allow you to pair an external GPU through a port on the laptop. Which could be utilized later with a newer Pascal card. I was just thinking that a release would dramatically drop the price of the 980Ms.

There's always going to be a release. The new 10xx cards will drive the price of the 980s down... Good news for me. There will be two side by side when that become necessary. hehe

Ok this is driving me nuts. Does anyone have a link to a real free download of XP?

I've tried Microsoft and Download.com. I just keep going in circles Lol!

Check out this site. Youll have to register to get to the downloads, but,...Everything is safe. You might have to install a crack, but its all fairly easy to do.

Thanks! I will take a look. If Microsoft has offered XP as freeware then I doubt a crack would be needed.

Do you have a license key for a copy of Win XP?

It's downloadable but it is not shareware or freeware. Downloading a copy of XP from "The Totally Legit Download Barn", would not be my first choice. It takes less than 30 seconds to include a batch file with the brand X install package.

Edit: If you do not possess a license key for XP, holler at me. I'm pretty sure I can pull one off of one the old machines in the garage that you can have.

Looking like I might be placing an order soon. With all the discounts and coupons I could apply, it looks like I could be paying $650 less than their list price.

still have 7 days to be sure this is what I want to do.

I think I still have the key. If I remember it's on the case, will check later. Thanks! Guess I misunderstood it as available as freeware.
