Getting headers/prochamber help!

Ordering up my TF Street heat and want some new exhaust with it...
I want to get long tube headers and a prochamber.
I currently have Flowmaster catback with my stock H-pipe and stock shorty headers. (2½)
I am probably going to go with MAC even though the coating is poor quality.
Will long tube headers fit with a prochamber just fine?
Now what size would I get? 2½" or 3"? 2½ since my flows are??
Now for the Long Tube headers I would go with 1⅝ w/ a 2½ collector? right?

Obviously I have to get the pro chamber for long tube headers...
Please let me know because I am going to order this up! What else will I need with this? (brackets, o2 sensors, etc?) I obviously dont know too much about exhaust setups. Leave all the information you got

A Pro Chamber will fit just fine but you won't like the long tubes. First of all, they suck to install. Aside from the fact that if you have an aftermarket oil pan, it'll be a real close fit. Then you'll find that the steering shaft is suddenly in the way and that you probably should have changed the motor mounts. And forget about ever changing the starter again. Then you'll get p.o.'d about them rubbing the ground on speed bumps every once in a while. Then there's the fun job of taking 2 days to install them. 5.0 Mustang did a review on the headers and really equal length shorties flowed almost as well as long tubes did. If you have to have long tubes though, go with a collector that is 2 1/2 inch since your cat back system is 2 1/2. A 3 inch system isn't necessary on the average mustang unless you're putting out 350 or more horse on the street with a power adder and even then I'd question the use of 3". You'll lose back pressure and it'll bog at low rpm. Ultimately, its up to you......

Friend just installed long tubes, dont know the brand, but his car sounds amazing with a off road x-pipe. If you want long tubes there are alot of people out there with them. Yes you will want 1 5/8 with 2.5" collecters, and you can order a pro chamber for long tubes that is 2.5" that will work perfect. Good luck. And your combo will sound totaly awsome I bet

I am doing MAC Shorties/Prochamber only because of the emissions around here... This way I am able to swap out the old H-Pipe for the Prochamber come emissions time.

i am running summitracing long tubes they are pretty good quality they are a break apart type they are pretty easy to install i have taken mine of like 5 times already b/c my startor wont turn my motor over they have 1 5/8 tubes with a 3 inch collector they are just like hooker headers only problems i have is keeping paint on them i kno they fit good on my 85 stang but i converted it to a v8 so i dont kno if it would be different 4 a 5.0 they come with everthing u need take a look if u want they only cost 80 bucks i can also get some pics of the fit on my car if anybody wants to look at them

You shouldn't lose any low end. The longtubes don't make much more hp but make significantly more low end torque (as much as 40ftlbs) over the shorties, so the loss from the lack of back pressure (maybe 5hp/ftlbs) should be more than made up for. I just put bbk ceramic coated longtubes and a prochamber on my car w/ 2-chamber flows. It DEFINATELY did not lose any low end - it gained a big SOTP feel 2000-3000rpm and just sounds nasty. Installation took about 4 hours but I have access to a lift and a helper, might take you a little longer. You may also have to replace your starter with a mini type, and I've heard of people having to notch the steering rack with the mac headers.

sounds like its quite a project, especially if i will need a new starter and have to mess with the steering rack

Yeah, it's a project. I went with the bbk's because I heard they fit better, and I didn't have any problems w/ the steering rack. I just threw some header wrap on my (stock) starter and I'm hoping it won't cook, so far so good.

I used bbk ceramic coated longtubes http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=esearch.asp&N=100&Ntk=PartSearch&Ntt=BBK-15160 and a mac 2.5" prochamber. Bolted right up (both 2.5" systems).

jb89coupe did you have to install the headers from underneath the car or did you drop them in from the top? Also do you have a problem with emissions?

They went in from under the car while on a lift. We had to undo the mounts and lift the engine a bit too, but it wasn't too bad since I had the right tools. You're not going to pass emmisions with this setup (even if your motor runs freakishly clean you will fail the visual inpection due to the lack of catalytic converters). I have a bbk h-pipe w/ 2 cats sitting in my garage for my emissions test. The prochamber eliminates your cats so you'll have to worry about that whether you go with short or long headers.

hmm so I might just want to go with shorty headers since they are alot easier to deal with huh?

If you stick with shorties you can use your stock h pipe to pass emissions and the prochamber the rest of the time... You might lose a little low end this way but you should gain considerably up top.

Hmm I am thinking of not getting a prochamber even though I really want it because its not emissions legal and I dont feel like switching it out just to get a sticker everytime! Should I go with an H pipe or an X pipe? what will give me more HP and TQ, also which sounds better?

does it matter if the collector is 2.5 or 3?

I would go 2.5" phlobus, the 3" is too big for what you have now, unless you want a poweradder later. if you need any help with installation let me know. I am probably about 5 mins away from you.
