GOOD fiberglass hoods, decklids, and bumpers?

My goals for the '68 are going to require at least some of these parts. I looked around at Branda and Mustangs Plus, but couldnt find a smooth(no turn signal) 'glass hood. I searched and it seems that no one here has had a good experience with 'glass decks. My steel stocker is useable, but the underside lip is rotting. My bumpers are tweaked as well, but they'll get painted so I figured 'glass on those too.

Any recommendations/insight on brands, suppliers, fit and finish?

Branda is supposed to be the best

but Maier may have what you're looking for. I believe they supply a few other companies with their 'glass, but I'm not sure if Branda is among them. Here are a few pics from my visit to Maier:

I haven't bought any of the fiberglass pieces that I want just yet. But I've been paying attention to this, and other web forums for a few years now. When I finally get to this project... this is what I've gathered so far.

I really like the R model front nose piece from Cobra Automotive. They developed it themselves and after browsing their web site numerous times over the years I get the impression they know what they're doing over there. Plus it's the best piece I've noticed for the 67 that I have. Since I don't have an actual Shelby... I need the Shelby "style" fiberglass hood. I've chosen them to supply that also.

The other pieces I want are the upper and lower scoops... and the rear deck lid with quarter extensions. On those I've picked to go with the Maier guys. Again... they're a race orientated organization it appears. And they make alot of their own products. I've seen alot of positive feedback on them too.

This is just my two cents as of today.... when I actually have the money for these components things could have changed. But this is what I've gathered so far.

Thanks 70vert. Unfortunately as I'm shopping their site, it appears Maier doesnt have standard design glass decklids OR hoods, just Shelby models. Oh well, bumping this up.

Mustang depot has some nice hoods, not sure if they have one for your 68. I removed a maeir hood and replaced it with the new depot hood, fits alot better.

So Fiberglass Specialties fit better than Maier?

that you got the Fiberglass Specialties hood for your '66, correct me if I'm wrong. Hmm, off too see what they F.S. makes for '69-70.

They have hoods for 67-68, but not a regular. They dont have standard glass decklids either . Except for the bumpers and front apron, I may have to make do with steel parts.

Check out Mustang Depot, they carry a bunch of hoods from Maier that are amazingly well built.

My father got a few things from Crites and judging by the quality and fitment problems, I would be highly reluctant to buy from them.

thanks 65up. I think I know better than to try to go with fiberglass fenders due to fitment, but I sure would like to reduce weight up front if I could. I don't think I've seen '69-70 fenders anywhere else though.

Hot damn, they DO have the stuff I'm looking for! Not only that, they're only about 2 hours away. Thanks!

I'll probably give them a try on at least one body piece to see how good they are. The extremely low prices kinda hint to me "too good to be true", but heck, I'll try it.

I bought a G.T. 350 style hood for a '65 coupe from them probably 15 years ago, and it required a great deal of bodywork; it was quite wavy. However, that was 15 years ago, and they may have improved the quality of their parts in that time. I guess it says something that they're still in business. From what I've been able to tell, personally and from other's experiences, it appears to be the norm for fiberglass parts to require a great deal of bodywork. Good luck, and remember, if the parts suck , I didn't vouch for their quality .

What about replacing the stock K-member with a tubular steel K-member? I have heard that you can save upwards of 45 lbs, maybe more, with the Griggs. I just don't know if you have to buy the rest of their front end suspension to be able to use it.

does the classic even have a k-member?

I think you're talking about Fox body cars, b/c I see a kit for that. I have tubular steel coilovers in the car now, and a tubular steel crossmember a la Boss 302. Other than that, my front frame rails are not a K-member. Am I missing something?

Thanks. Dont worry, I may actually go so far as to drive over there and see the stuff before I buy it.

On the K-members, for anyone who might like to hijack this thread, that is only a Fox chassis thing. You have to be careful which ones you get because some are only for street or drag and others like the Griggs move the front wheels forward to improve wheelbase.

actually griggs does make a front suspension kit for the early stangs that converts to use a tubular k member. very pricey but supposed to be the best

wow, there's a whole new world of things to spend my mustang money on.

So, the K member up there supposedly improves geometry and stiffens the front?? I think I'm pretty committed to what I have there now but if I were building up a shell from scratch that would be a pretty attractive setup. It doesn't look like you have much choice in headers with the way they route the steering shaft for the R&P.
I like Reen's rear suspension setup better, but their rear is about half the price of an IRS.
