With the key turned on how many volts should i get at this wire.
This is one of the 6 wires that goes into the alternator.
Im getting 12 volts everywhere except for this wire. 5.45 if my reading.

I recently changed from fuelie to carb and everything works great except for the dash lights are saying im not getting a charge from my alternator.

Any ideas?????

Do you have a 2G or a 3G style alternator?

You could have a bad regulator, or a burned fuse link.

Its a 2G.

I checked the fuseable link and it gave me 12 volts by the solenoid and close to the alternator.
Im stumped at the 5.45 number.

Are you sure the alternator is good, ideally it should put out around 14.1v at idle. I would take it off and have it tested; also do you have a good battery and clean terminals?

Agreed with having the alt tested.

The fact that your dash light works indicates the circuit wiring is ok. What happens is that 12 volts goes through the dash light (or a resistor in parallel, which is one reason for not seeing 12 volts in this wire) and then the trace goes to the I terminal on the regulator. When the alt is charging the end of this circuit is ungrounded and the light is out. When the alt is not excited, the I portion of the regulator is grounded, which makes the light come on.
