blue smoke is oil, grey smoke means your running rich, white smoke means you blew your headgasket...
could be many things if its oil or running rich. bent valves, piston rings, seals... the list goes on and on... your engine may not have been warmed up when you revved it, that often causes a lot of smoke (and damage to the engine)

yep, he hit it pretty much on the head. blue smoke means oil. pull your plugs and see if there are any deposits on any. that would be a good place to start.

piston rings gone bad creating blow by, or bad guides and seals in the heads. you could baby it and try to get the car to last if you dont have the funds for a rebuild just yet, but you have to drive easy.

Yep sounds like some blow by is going on. Could also be valve seals. But I would suggest doing a Compression test and a cylinder leak down test. Also, do the compression test dry and wet. Wet meaning squirt a few drops of oil in the spark plug hole. If the numbers jump up a decent ammount on the 'wet' test, your rings and cylinder walls are done for and your looking at a rebuild. How many miles are on the engine? Many mod motors get to about 100k or more, the start to burn oil. In downtown Chi-town, almost every taxi you see (Crown Vics) has a trail of blue smoke following it. My buddie's mom's Towncar burned oil like crazy too. Mine uses a little oil and it's got 69k on the clock.

Does it really smoke a lot when you first start it up? That is another symptom of shot rings. Sounds like you need an engine rebuild mang. After only 44k miles, way to go taking care of your Stang...

you may want to just go with forged internals if you infact have to rebuild your motor..it will allow you to do alot more to your car without having to worry as much

mine smokes when I nail it through the first few gears, but I think it is just because I have an offroad pipe. nothing at idle or normal driving.

sorry to hyjack, but my number 7 cyl plug has a trace of oil on it and it burns a little oile (about half a quart every 3000 miles) the engine has 91000 miles and is 9 years old....no other problems and no smoke EVER.....you think i should be worried, or just normal engine coming into its last few years? its been like that since i bought it 2 years ago and hasnt gotten any worse though its seen its track days and agressive driving often.

should be normal. as long as it is black puffs. black smoke is gas. blue or white smoke is bad. if you ever see sports cars especially after they are tuned most smoke. vipers seem to be the worst i have seen, they billow black smoke like a deisel truck.
