I don't know how else to describe the noise, so I have to say that it sounds like a growl. It comes from either right in front of or below me and happens when I'm either pushing the clutch in or just releasing it to get the car going. So just as it is engaging. I don't hear it otherwise. You guys have any idea what it may be. I figure something in the drivetrain but I don't know what. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Justin, when this occurs, has it been a long time since you ate?

If I had to make a crude guess, I'd suggest that your bearing retainer is getting chewed up. It was a huge problem on foxes and is still an issue on 94-95 GTs (they are aluminum - upgrade to steel, as fox and SN95 cobras had).

It's 40 bucks for a new steel one (if that's it. Like I said, that was a blanket guestimate).

Mine's a little raunchy and I occasionally *carefully* spray some white lithium on the rear portion of the bearing retainer. If that helps, that's telling. Keep any lube away from friction surfaces in the clutch area though.

Good luck bud.

You guys crack me up. I knew I would get some crap like that. Really though, my drivetrain only has about 8,000 miles on it. I upgraded everything. I did a TKO500, Mcleod Clutch, Adjustable Quadrant w/ firewall adjuster, aluminum driveshaft, and rear end. Everything else was new from the fork, TOB, to the Retainer. Probably some other stuff too, but I can't think straight right now And I don't notice it all the time. It's only every once in a while. I haven't paid close enough attention but I think it happens when I hold the clutch in for a while or idle with it in neutral for a while. Thanks for the ideas, you could be right but it just seems soon to have that with all the new heavy duty stuff.

I agree that none of those parts should be causing an issue - I had no idea you had all those nice parts. The pilot bearing was replaced too?

And I dont have experience with those expensive components , so................. [exits stage left].

Good luck bud and bump.

well since it wasn't a bear or a chihuahua I'd say it's possibly the blockplate- the plate can warp if the bellhousing is overtorqued onto the block causing the the blockplate to warp and then the flywheel (and the counterweight) will dig into it as well causing fun rackets, especially when you apply the clutch. (But I think you should check again- maybe it could be a moose.)
