Hangin onto the Cobra: Gimme a reason S/C!!

OK guys, I have an absolutely BEAUTIFUL '01 Mineral Grey Cobra Vert that I've thought about selling but really could never bring myself to do so. BS on the selling thing and lets make this thing faster!!!! Here's my question: I'm a 40 something dork but can appeciate HP (my company car is a new GTO, BTW: get over the Ford vs. GM thing, they're both cool), I know I gotta go with Vortech, Procharger or Kenne Bell (I'm looking for upwards of 550 to 600 RWHP) which would suit a weenie like me best (occassional track events) and give the best reliability? Thanks in advance.....Mark.

Upwards of the 550 to 600 mark, eh? Well, if you want to make that kind of power it would be a wise decision to build up the engine (forged pistons, rods, etc). Might as well do it the right way, know what I mean?

You will need bigger injectors, MAF, fuel pumps, full exhaust, P&P heads, forged bottom end, the blower, smaller pulley.....then you will need to ditch the IRS for a solid axle and some sticky tires for starters.

Take a drive in a 450RWHP Cobra with some gears first.....that will give you an idea of how much power you truly want. At 430-450RWHP you will need an s-trim with injectors, MAF and fuel pumps....and full exhaust. The bottom end should survive for awhile.

The KB would make for a fun street car. But so would a Vortech assuming you run a 4.10 or 4.30 gear. I'm very pleased with the set up on my car.

Throw on a Kenne Bell at around 6 psi and make about 400 to the wheels. That will keep you from having to build up the motor ( for a while anyway ) and give you a nice street car. If you are talking about 550-600 rwhp you are kidding yourself with the stock motor. Don't forget all the other mods that will have to go with your new found power. See above posts.

that kind of power is going to need fuel pumps, injectors, maf, pistons, exhaust, tranny/clutch upgrades, rear end brace and better half shafts at the very least... and then you can still have drivability issues.

I think you are suffering from not enough cobra-itis... test drive an 03/04 with a pulley yet?

Thanks for the help guys. Been doing a bit of research and you've all hit it on the head, need to upgrade dang near most of the driveline to support 600 plus hp (recently went for a ride in one with about 500, DAMN!!!) which I've come to the conclusion is probably too much and nearly unusable except for the track. If I'm going to pursue this I'll probably follow the gear/Vortech route OR go ahead and sell mine and get an '03 or '04 which is much better suited for the big HP. BTW, a company GTO is great but nothing comes with a big bow on it, I've busted my a** for over 20 years to get where I'm at. For all you 20 somethings reading this; It's alot easier to just do the job and do it well that to screw off and try to cover your rear down the road, you'll end up well compensated and feel a helluva lot better about yourself. Sorry for the sermon, my father is retired military and this was one of the things I really did listen to and am damn glad I did.
