Hard Job to replace power steering pulley?

You're going to need a puller to remove the pulley from the pump. You would probably be better off removing the pump and either taking it to a parts store to have it removed or removing it yourself out of the car. Not sure if there is enough room in the compartment for for the puller to fit.

I took mine to Autozone when i bought the new one and they have the pully tool right there.

i have the pump unbolted and loose so i should be able to fit the puller in there, i also have a new bracket for it but i can't get the stud out of the head that holds my a/c unit on. Its threaded on both sides, smooth in the middle, so i have nothing to wrench onto, unless i thread two nuts on together and try but i don't want to snap it in there, any ideas?

Thats about the only way your going to get it out. Unless you get a set of vice grips.

You will need to rent or buy a PS steering puller. The PS pulley has a ridge that the puller seats on. Then you crank the screw on the middle of the puller to get the pulley off the shaft.

You can rent the tool at Autozone or other auto parts stores.

I have used a bearing separator & harmonic balancer puller together to do the job.

Use this tool to put it back on...

I usually just use the bolt that comes with the new PS pump.

the vise grips are slippin on it, its nice of ford not to notch it out so you can wrench it off, f'in f'ers, i just went to autozone and they wanted $40 to rent it, isn't it cheaper to by it? f'n a'holes!

i bought that tool for $6 brand new at a liquidation center, never used it though...

I never have understood why they used a press-on pulley for the P/S pump, but a three-bolt pulley on the smog pump. I wouldn't think that it'd be terribly hard for Ford to have engineered a flange onto the end of the P/S pump shaft to accept a bolt-on pulley...

Also, as far as the tool goes, make sure you have that bolt threaded ALL the way in there before you go crankin' on it to try to remove the pulley, otherwise you'll strip the threads on the tool and/or pump shaft and you'll pretty much be screwed.

Liberal squirtings of WD-40 and/or PB Blaster also aid the process quite a bit, as well.

i asked the reject behind the counter if i got the money back and he said no, so i had to go back and rent it cuz they let a bunch of window lickers work there

What the hell kinda Autozone is that? ALL stores have the tool rental program. You pay a deposit, you use the tool, you take it back, you get your deposit back. Print something off of their website and bring it in to show them, if they try to insist that their rental tools are purchase-only. Make sure you still have your receipt. If they give you crap, and if the manager is the clueless one that thinks rental tools are PURCHASE tools, get his/her name, and contact customer service. That's just friggin' stupidity, there - that'd be kinda like me renting a movie from Blockbuster, getting charged full purchase price for it, and then they seal shut the movie return slot.

Apply some heat with a torch...that thing is damn near welded on to the shaft.
