I'm in the middle of building up my engine a bit. New cam and heads. My only questuion right now, but Im sure I will have more is, should I be putting gasket sealer like Indian Head Gasket Shellac on my head gaskets also? I've heard mixed reviews, I was told not to because it'll make the gasket imperfect and cause the head gasket to blow. But then I also heard it will keep it nice and sealed. Any information is great. Thanks in advance!

Most all head gaskets should be installed dry. When in doubt, follow the instructions from the gasket maker.

Which one are you using?

I'm not sure that it would make too much of a difference if it's made for the application, but I installed all of my gaskets dry, including the intake gaskets which many people recommend putting some RTV around the water passages. I'd hate to have to pull it all back apart and replace gaskets if something were to go bad with the sealer on the gasket which caused it to fail.

All head gaskets I've ever installed were supposed to be installed dry.

Intake gaskets are a different story, I just installed a set with my new Intake last week and the instructions specically said to use a thin amount of blue RTV around the water ports on the manifold side of the gaskets only.
