Headers producing too much heat

I love my new equilength shorties but they are producing way too much heat. How do some of you keep the heat down in your engine compartment without sacrificing the "show-off" quality of the things under the hood? Pics welcomed please. Thanks

Send them to Jet Hot and get em coated. Or, sell yours and get the coated headers. My E/L BBKs' are coated and produce less heat than the stainless steel stockers'. You could use a wrap type header tape. Don't have any experience with that though.

There are "blanket type" things you can buy Do not look the best but you can remove them to "show" the motor.
Check out the exhaust section at www.stockcarproducts.com
that site is incredible but not much Ford but some things work. You can get tape there too but this is totally different.

My headers are ceramic coated but damn those babies are making the paint peels on some stuff and causing rubber and foam parts to get warped and crack. I'm thinking about header wrap but Jesus I tell you equilengths are a "mother" to work around. Don't even think about working on the engine compartment for hours after you've drove it anywhere.

It's not what's near them really. Not much circulation under the hood I know now because everything is warmer now than before. Rubber couplers on the cold air intake are getting heat damage so I know the "cold air" is prolly not so cold anymore, painted surfaces around the engine are starting to peel, but really the only thing I'm having trouble keeping from touching the headers is the AC lines which aren't flexible in the least. Guess i need to go back in there and wrap the headers what a pain for handspace these things are.

Yeah I got those same headers as it says in my sig. I love those things as you can see by your pics they are a hell of lot better looking than the stock manifold and flow many times better. I wouldn't trade em for the world. Just looking for ideas here to help keep the heat down that they bring with em. Did you change you mid-pipe with them?

My Bassani equal lengths are ceramic coated and i would def say the engine bay is COOLER than with the stockers...and no burnt plug wires....gotta love Bassani quality!

Is it possible that going with a set of performance spark plugs and a hotter spark gap maybe bumped up the combustion and therefore made the exhaust hottier?

IMO if that were true the difference could not be enough to make an extreme heat difference like that. But I did see a post where
it said the headers were getting red hot.....now that is an extreme difference but I neglected to read it...... if I had I might have had something interesting to tell you but .......I don't think extra spark.

No, the spark has nothing to do with it. I dont even think your headers are to blame. Your paint and couplers may just be succumbing to age and wear. You can bend the A/C lines. I had to bend mine up about 2 inches and drill a new hole for the mount on the passenger side to clear my Bassanis.

No, did not get a mid pipe yet. Next Spring the car is paid for and get to spend a little more. Maybe it is time to get a cowl hood. The stock hood is real restrictive. I was thinking of getting the 3" cowl hood from Cervini's or the carbon fiber one listed in the Brother's Performance catalog.

the whole glowing red is very true. My friends turbo Focus had actually cracked bc it was running so lean. I was glowing red bc he wanted to top his car out. As it cooled down, two cracks appeared. One by the head, one by the downpipe.

Glowing headers is normal.... at WOT... Now, if they're glowing at idle, that's bad...
