My '93 headlights turn off shortly after turning on the foglights. I have found a "Headlight Switch Repair Kit" in 50resto.com which addresses the #15 ciruit overheating issue.

The kit includes:

1 - HEADLAMP SWITCH
1 - MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH
1 - HEADLIGHT SWITCH CONNECTOR
1 - REPAIR HARNESS FOR MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH
2 - TERMINAL CONNECTORS

My question: Is the replacing the multi-function switch really necessary? The kit sells for $200 because a new multi-function switch is included.
I've had my '93 GT since the beginning and only recently my headlights started flicking when the foglights are on.

Here's a link to a good write up on how to fix this problem.

You could do the fog light relay retrofit if you only have issues when the fogs are on.
I'm kind of a piece it together type of guy, so the benefits of a kit like that are lost on me. I'd also not have reason to think your MF switch is bad. A 2 dollar relay might be all you need.

Good luck.

Roland, when you do the retrofit, check the main wire feed from the headlight switch to the MF switch (it was red/yellow on my car, IIRC, and of decent size gauge compared to the other wire near it).
You might have begun to burn that wire up if the headlight's thermal breaker didnt kick in time.

The reason the multi-function switch is included in the kit is because a lot of stangers burn there's up by overheating it.

I put up with the whole fog-light flickers an headlight shuting off issues to the point where my multi-function switch took a total dump.

HOWEVER, if the ONLY time you have any headlight issues is when the fogs are on then your multi-function switch should be totally fine. you MAY have some melted plastic connectors back there.. but all the wiring should still be in order.

Just do the resto-mod Write that provided in the link above.. no need to drop 200 bucks on a 20 dollar fix (Like i had too... the multi-function cost me 120bucks from ford.. .but I also won exactly 120 bucks on a scratch off that day.. go figure )

Use a relay and you will be fine. If it just started happening then I would bet your MF switch and your headlamp switch are fine. Just wire up a relay to keep that current out of the switch and you will be fine.

Thank you all.

I changed the relay and so far no problems. If the headlights go out again when the foglights are on, go with the info from corral.net which i have saved.
