Hi Guys!

I am new to this forum and have a concern with my 1988 5.0. On the way to work tonight, all of a sudden with my bright lights on my headlights just turned off. I then pull back on the lever and switch it to normal lights and it stayed on for about a mile or so. Then the lights shut off again! I pulled back on the lever and flicked the headlight switch and the lights came on again and then off. This continued all the way to work and then finally I held the lever back and drove in with the bright lights on.

Does anyone know what could cause this? In fact I parked my car and let it idle for about 5 minutes and turned the lights on normal and it stayed on by itself.

Help Please!

Common problem. That is the headlight circuit breaker tripping before the wires melt and catch on fire! The Ford lights are wired badly, running the entire current through the switch, instead of using a relay to power the lights. There is an article with instructions on how to rewire it, but I can't seem to find it. Maybe someone else can post it up. Last time I pulled my light switch fron the harness, I noticed the wire plug was slightly deformed and brown, so I probably need to fix it also.

I wouldnt recommend holding the lever back and forcing them on for much longer- the breaker is doing its job

yep. i would personally stick a SPDT relay on the lows at a minimum. i like excess, so my lows, highs and fogs (GT) are all on relays.

welcome to the boards. good luck.
