I was just driving my '95 and I took a turn then all of a sudden my wheel jerked to the right so then I jerked it back. Then it would steer real jerky. When I stopped and tried to turn the car off the ignition just spun. The key wouldn't turn the engine off and I could take the key out. What the hell happend?

Could be a tie rod end is loose or something. Did you inspect everything under the car? If you center the wheel do the tires point sraight ahead ( mostly)?

I thought that is what it could be but then my ignition wouldn't turn off... maybe when the tie-rod end went out it tweaked something in the ignition? I'll have to check it out.

ya motor mounts that decide to cut loose will cause the engine to rub the steering shaft sometimes makeing steering the car damn near impossible also screw all the wires up as well. Check that out.

i think once you pop the screws off the bottom piece off, that lets the top go (like you have to pop the bottom off to get the top off).

i would get a new switch, check things out while in there, and go from there.
that sucks.
good luck.

The top doesn't come off like that. The bottom did but the top is wrapped around the ignition switch. So I dunno how I am supposed to take it off or what.

How much would a new switch be?

How do I get the ignition switch out? It looks like it is part of the whole damn column! Would CarQuest sell new ignition switches or should I just take this too a shop? I would prefer to do it all myself.

Ok... so I got the ignition switch out. The switch is fine... but what the switch goes into and is supposed to turn is what I think is busted. How can I fix this... because the column looks like it is one damn piece!
