help mustang problem

ok i have an 87 gt and the car was working perfect the other day i go out there today and i find the battery is close to dead so i get the lumina over to it and try to jump start it, the mustang will try to turn over but it doesnt seem to be getting enough juice. So then i go to disconnect the jumper cables and there pritty hot, so i check the jumper cables for a cross over or short nothing there not touching anywhere inside, confirmed with ohm meter. I was wondering if it could be an ignition module problem? (everything in the car works all accesories everything acts fine until you want to start it, everything gets dim), ohh starter solenoid engages all the time tries to turn over about 50percent of the time. Just installed starter thinking it could of been the problem but no luck..., please help,ty.

check your cables for resistance. dont forget the starter cable. how is your battery? cables can get hot, but i would bet you have a bad ground, etc. (on your car).

if youre not turning over real well, it might not be enough to get it to 'catch.'
you can check for spark while cranking, if desired.

Charge your battery with a batery charger and see what happens after that you could have a bad battery. Or you could take your battery and have it tested.

If it is your battery, its a good excuse to get an Optima...if you get the car started, check the voltage across the terminals, maybe the alternator is not putting out enough juice.

Have your battery tested, sounds like a bad cell. If you have a bad cell, it will be very hard to jumpstart. Also like it's been said, check your cables too.

If you just installed the starter, check the pos cable where it bolts onto it. I've seen this kind of thing happen when they work loose sometimes, but if left unchecked it can cause other things to start melting down too.
